BIRDS ON HOLIDAY

While we were on holiday I captured some birds, shot some birds, took some photos of birds.
Common Moorhen,  Alford lake Gympie

Black Swan, Alford Lake Gympie

Kookaburra, Captain Cook Holiday Park,  Town of 1770.

Sulphur Crested Cockatoo, Big 4 Holiday Park, Cania Gorge.

King Parrot, cabin balcony, Cania Gorge.

Galah, Holiday Park, Cania Gorge.

Rainbow Lorikeet, Holiday Park, Cania Gorge.

I don't know what type of wading bird these are but I thought they looked funny both asleep on one leg.

  1. Diane, I am fascinated that you are able to identify so many birds. I am just learning.
Do you have a particular lens on your camera or do you manage to get up close and personal?

  2. Yes Chez I use a telephoto lens for some but others were so tame that you could get very close to them.

  3. Ooo goodie ... I had a go at birdies during my trip but have not sorted them as yet. I love the clarity of the shot you have here. Certainly up close and personal.

Could the wading birds be sea-gulls, do you think?

  4. Great photos Diane. You are starting to amaze me??? Then again you mostly do.
The birds, Julie, are not sea-gulls, maybe a member of the "heron" family or such like, water-fowl?
I loved the photo of the galah - just looked like - our family "Paulie" of the 1960's.

  5. God forbid - thank heavens for the line through - " I captured some birds, shot some birds" - that is really hilarious!
I might have to get you doing the "Annie Oakley" or "Calamity Jane" stunt here, to rid us of the crow colony. How much do you charge??????
    Cheers

  6. What a great roundup. The parrots are beautiful but my favourite is the Black Swan.

  7. I've got to agree with Chez. I'm impressed that you know the names of all these birds, and what a wonderful variety you were able to see and photograph. Just lovely. I remember as a youngster singing a song about a kookaburra sitting in a tree, but I don't think I have ever seen one! My favorite, composition wise, is the sulphur crested cockatoo. Nice soft background and interesting foreground.

  8. My favourite bird is and will always be the Kookaburra, he laughs so nicely. It's a pity that we don't have them here!
    Beautiful pictures !

  10. Great photos of all the birds...... and delighted to see all the water there, it was very dry the last time we passes through.... in fact my memory of Gympie is meeting some out-of-town women at the laundrette, who did not have the water at home at that time to do their washing..... sorry.... a bit off-topic.
    I do enjoy your posts.

  12. I enjoyed the visit with the birds. Neat photos! I think someone around here has a parrot of some kind, because I hear something that sounds a bit like the Kookaburra. Glad you got your car back! And the lemons look so pretty in the black bowl in your new kitchen.

  14. The black swan is beautiful. I love seeing photos of birds we don't have here like the Kookaburra.

It is a little difficult to judge the size but could the wading birds be a type of sandpiper.
