A MYSTERY FOR EVERYONE

As some of you know we are on a mystery tour with Birthday Bear. Ann organised the tour and won't tell us where we are going until each morning. This morning was very exciting because she told us that we are going to Carnarvon Gorge, which is a place that has been on my bucket list for some time. We were all excited. It had been raining gently throughout the night and as we set off the rain clouds and rain were surrounding us.
When we stopped for morning tea, Ann received a call from the Carnarvon Gorge Wilderness Resort telling us that the road into the gorge had been closed due to the rain (it is a dirt road) and we wouldn't be able to go there today. Naturally we were all disappointed and now it was a mystery to all of us where we could stay for the night. We had been booked into the Carnarvon Wilderness Resort for three nights.
When we stopped for petrol, we saw how some of the other vehicles had faired going over dirt roads in the rain. We were convinced that we had to find somewhere else to stay.
We kept driving towards Carnarvon Gorge and stopped for lunch and dug out the laptop to google the area for accommodation and found that there was very little available. Our only choice was to drive 170k north to Emerald or 140k south to Injune. So we opted for Injune.
So we drove and drove through beautiful countryside and passed the Carnarvon Gorge National Park, wistfully wishing we could be going there.
We found a typical one horse country town Motel and settled in. We scrounged around our luggage and found some left overs for an afternoon tea on the "balcony"? Birthday Bear was glad to be released from the luggage compartment.
She got stuck into the biscuits. She didn't seem to care that we never got to the Carnarvon Gorge Wilderness Resort.Tomorrow we have to ring the Resort to see if the road is open so that we can continue the planned itinerary or are we going to be plunged into more mystery?

  6. So sorry about your disapointment! I have found that life is sometimes not about the destination, but the journey. I have had the most fun on unexpected detours going to places I hadn't wanted to. And just sometimes, I've found that God can lead me through a detour to get to people that I'm supposed to cross paths with. I think Birthday Bear is so unruffled because he already knows all this!

  11. Of course I have to laugh about your adventure, yes this rain !
Today there is the reconstitution of the Waterloo battle and it's raining ! The town is full of tourists, journalists from all over the world and the poor soldiers are running around in their historical costumes and get wet.
This year they have done an enormous show ! the other years it was more a family feast.
I am curious where you will land next !

  16. Geese, Birthday Bear. What an adventure you had. Looks pretty, tho. I am so glad you are still pretty in pink and that you did not get your beautiful outfit all dirty in the rain and mud.

    See you tomorrow!

  17. Too bad the rain curtailed your trip to the Gorge, maybe later. My favorite kind of trip is the unplanned, the adventures are almost always exciting. I can't wait to see what happens next.
