REAL RAIN

At last it is really raining, it has been raining on and off for about three days, not just a half hour storm and then clear up, like the past few efforts. The grass has turned green, the leaves are shiny and clean and my lopped trees are starting to shoot like mad. I wish I had some vegies in the patch. I must make an effort to plant some in between showers. The temperature drops from the 30'sC/90'sF to 27C/81F but the humidity is extremely high and everything is damp and clammy, especially our skin, but I prefer it to being cold. You can walk in the rain and its warm and you dry off to a clammy state fairly quickly.

The birds love it and they are all chirping and screeching with joy.

The trees get a good wash.

It comes down in sheets at times and the gutters can't cope so it just tumbles out and........

..splashes on the deck railing. This is my world living in the sub-tropics.

  1. That is real rain, how wonderful. I would be as happy as the birds to see everything fresh and green again. Great capture of the raindrop on the last photo.

  3. We got a bit like that on Monday morning and they are promising a bit for Fri/Sat. The Western Plains have had a good soak all week. Not the mad tumble wash-yer-topsoil-away rain that is of no use to man or beast but steady soaking stuff.

I love your photos. My gutters do that too. Some storms are just not factored in. That's cool. Love the last shot where those massive drops are bouncing off the railing.

Wuhoo ... who would live anywhere else!!

Yes the splashing droplet is good.
We've had rain here as well, some places near here had 200mm in 3 day's (Come by chance).
    All the best for 2010.

  6. Now THAT is what I call rain! Brilliant shots Mum! I agree with everyone, the last shot is fantastic! Of course it's raining in London today, but it's the cold (freezing) drizzly windy grey rain that makes you want to stay in bed with a good book, a piping hot cup of tea and listen to the windows rattling in their pane. Where as your rain makes you want to strip off and run around outside to dance in the downpour!

12 more sleeps until we leave London!

  8. Wow- you sure do have an eye for photography! That last shot is amazing! you need to enter it into some sort of "greatest photo of all time" contest :-)

Glad to hear the rain is welcomed - we're been seeing a lot of reports on floods and were hoping you have escaped the damages...

  11. Congrats, Diane... After all of your dry days, I'm sure you are THRILLED to get some much-needed rain. Does it cool things off also? When we get summer rains, the humidity gets higher --which is worse than high temperatures.. The humidity is what kills us here... Do you have high humidity down there?

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  12. Hi Diane

That's the type of rain that Young and the surrounding countryside all got from Christmas Eve until midnight on Boxing day. Good steady soaking rain that will make the area really "blossom". The dams will all be full and the farmers will all have received the best Christmas present for years. A good repeat in about 3 to 4 weeks will have them all dancing in the streets, no that's wrong, in the paddocks! Just like the photos that were shown on the news and in the newspapers - farmers and their kids playing in the mud!
The general talk in Young was - "How many mills or inches did you receive"?
Great photography as usual - congratulations.

  20. Thats what I love about rain in Qld ... it's warm so you can go outside and splash about and enjoy it. Here when it rains the temperature plummets and you have to get inside beside the heater. Lovely shots ... captures the torrent beautifully.
