A GRANDFATHER'S JOY

We waited some time before we became grandparents, so it was with much excitement that we were presented with a grandson last year. Bill was especially thrilled to have a little boy in the family, since we had two girls. He couldn't wait to hone his carpentry skills to make Fox a trolley of blocks.
Just before Christmas he got to work.

Fox's Christmas present takes shape.

I'm thinking...How the heck are we going to get this into a suitcase and onto the plane. We were celebrating Christmas with Fox in Victoria.

He is a little young yet but he will soon be pushing it around. Aunty Carol helps out.

When I'm bigger I am going to make castles with these but for now I'll have a chew.

Thank you Grossvati, I like these blocks.

  2. All little boys love a cart full of blocks! What a great gift from Grandfather to grandson (first born) - a handmade heirloom, possibly?

I can see Gran & Gramps hopping on board a plane as often as possible to visit that adorable little boy. You are going to miss them all so much!

  3. Great work ! I noticed that wooden toys are very up to date again ! My neighbor's grandson also has lots of wooden toys and not so much in plastic. In a year I probably will be able to do such a post too, lol ! Meanwhile little Toby measures 60 cm and weight nearly 5 kgs ! and he is only 2 months since 3 days !

  6. I can't think of a greater gift than having one put together by the hands of one's Grossvati. What a treasure! Fox is so adorable and he is certainly enjoying his grandfather's present.

  9. Wow Diane.... Bill did a great job making that little wagon full of blocks for Fox. Like you said, he will have to 'taste' them all for awhile --until he gets older and can build his castle....

I raised 3 boys ---so when my first grand came and was a GIRL, I was thrilled to say the least. I could buy dolls and frilly clothes and all kinds of girlie things for her. She is now 17.. Yipes!!!!

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  10. Yeah! Me too! He's a wonderful carpenter-er. I have a whole list of things I'd like him to build. But I guess 20 or 30 thousand miles (give or take) is a bit far to ship. I'll settle for watching the thrill in Fox's eyes.

  11. What a wonderful job, Grandpa. I just adore toys that will last well into childhood and will allow that child's imagination to burst forth! Bravo!

  15. Diane, I cannot believe the fact that Fox has grown so quickly. Those eyes would already be breaking hearts while the cart and blocks provides pleasure for the giver as well as the receiver.
    Lovely family pictures...

  16. Alannah has a set of large soft blocks, and they are a big hit right at the moment. I think her mother is going to get another set, as we both have exhausted the permutations possible. But great fun to elicit that guffaw in anticipation of the great *smash*.

  19. Hi Diane;) I popped back here from your last post and what a LOVELY gift this is. Bill is very talented. Just this morning, (Sundaty 23 January) while at John and Debbie's home, Grant said he had just seen Joshua "working" with the wood and other tools in the school room. On the way home, he said: I can see that Joshua will be the technical guy in that family (and you could hear the pride in his voice!) Loved this post! Jo
