Yes! It is time to celebrate another birthday with Birthday Bear. This time it was Ann's birthday and she wanted to celebrate her birthday with us and Bear at Mt Tamborine. Mt Tamborine is a beautiful mountain village in the hinterland of the Gold Coast. It is only 50 k and 50 min drive from home.
There were seven of us (eight including Bear) and we stayed in a 5 star B&B. "Villa della Rosa" It was a lovely place with ......
...a beautiful garden.
Birthday Bear came to breakfast dressed as a telephonist as that was Ann's job when she was very young. She often has us in fits of laughter when recalling her time as a telephonist/call girl. Birthday Bear even had her switchboard with her. She had also dashed out in her lunch break to buy some groceries, which are in her string bag.
Ann loved her Birthday Bear and we loved the scrumptious breakfast that followed.
It was Helen's turn to dress Birthday Bear and she did a great job, especially with the switchboard.
We all had a great two days at Mt Tamborine. I'll show you what we did in the next posts.
Happy birthday Ann! Diane, I've followed your blog so long that I think I remember's Ann's birthday last year. (might be wrong!) Good on Helen for recreating Ann's job. The switchboard and balloons brought back [fond] memories when I did a stint as a telephone operator. I even had a string bag, a white one! What a lovely place you stayed at. And of course, I love the idea of Birthday Bear! Have a great weekend. Jo
ReplyDeleteI'm very impressed with Birthday Bear's get up for this celebration. You also had a wonderful place at which to celebrate. I like his B&B very much.
ReplyDeletecongrats to Helen, fantastic bear job. love it
ReplyDeleteIt is always so nice to see how you all create a different bear with so much creative power. Must be wonderful to receive such a present with humor.
ReplyDeleteYou know.......I'm not jealous or anything of Birthday Bear...but I'm mindful of the fact that he has a better social life than I have.
ReplyDeleteI changed my mind. I am jealous! :))
What a lovely B&B! Your breakfast looks like its off to a great start with all that fresh fruit and juice. Birthday Bear looks very fine in her wig, as she connects the line.
ReplyDeleteI thought of you and Bill while I was at Andre's. The original owners came from Basel, Switzerland. Their grandchildren operate the bakery/restaurant today.
I like the picture with the table.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
Filip

ReplyDeleteGreat B&B, Diane... Looks like a great group to celebrate Ann's birthday... Love the way Helen fixed up Birthday Bear... TOO CUTE...
ReplyDeleteI grew up with a telephone operator (as we called them) in my small town. My home phone was 213... The operator would say "Number Please" --and you'd say the number you wanted.... We always said that our town telephone operator knew EVERYTHING about EVERYONE in our town.. Talk about GOSSIP....ha ha
Hugs,
Betsy
I certainly knew there were some rather "swish" looking establishments up at Mt Tamborine, looks like you selected a very Mediterranean sort of place.
ReplyDeleteAh yes the joys of the switchboard operator!!! They were operating still in the 1970's in the central west ( Riverina) area of NSW!!
And then there were those "party lines" - you could hear clicks and knew instantly that someone was listening in - no secrets in those days - ha ha.
Cheers

HHHMMMmmm... 'telephonist' and 'call girl' aren't quite the same thing??!! LOVE the birthday bear idea and sounds like a great little trip!! One day we'll make it back there again ...
ReplyDeleteWe spent a lovely weekend in Tamborine a couple of years ago. The B&Bs are all lovely with nice gardens. I love the shot of the ginko in the middle ... they call them maiden hair trees, it's easy to see why ... then again it could be a shot of a maiden hair fern couldn't it.
ReplyDeleteJoan: It was a tree.
ReplyDeleteDiane - you and your friends go to such a lot of trouble with your special birthday bear. It looks like a wonderful place you visited Great smiles!
ReplyDeleteLovely tradition.
ReplyDeleteAnd a gorgeous place to celebrate a birthday.
Your BB is such a wonderful tradition, Diane. Great way to get around, and great way to keep friends together.
ReplyDeleteI think I went through Mt Tambourine on my way up to O'Reillys at the beginning of 2011. Seems like an eon ago now ...
A belated Happy Birthday to Ann and kudo's to Helen for a job well done dressing Birthday Bear!

What a marvellous Guesthouse! I could be very comfortable there :) Birthday Bear looked wonderful as a Switchboard Operator! I do so love these gatherings you have with your friends whenever there's a birthday to celebrate. It makes me wonder how many other folks 'out there' have poached your idea and are doing likewise.
ReplyDeleteBirthday bear's outfits get more elborate each time! Great job. My mum used to be a telephonist.
