Goodbye London

Our daughter, Carol-Ann and son-in-law, David are leaving London tomorrow (Sunday), after living there for seven years, to return home to Australia. We are madly excited but they have the hard task of saying goodbye to their friends and the city they love. Nature has sent them the coldest, whitest winter to farewell them. In the past few weeks they have been visiting friends and their favourite places to say goodbye. Here are some photos they have just sent us.

David on West Hamstead Station.

Carol-Ann at Oxford Circus.

The following are snowy shots from around their neighbourhood of Hamstead.

We are all hoping they are able to fly out of Heathrow without too much hassle with the bad weather, but it is highly likely there will be delays. I just hope they get home safely. What a difference in temperature they are going to experience it is so humid and hot here at the moment. I hope they adjust quickly.

  1. Great shots Diane from the winter of London.
Yes they will get a bit of a shock with our present humidity!
I often wonder how people can really survive with all that cold and snow.
    Have fun on their return.

  2. I love all the photos, but the photo with the two phone boxes is absolutely the best. Glad they have such wonderful photos to save with their memories. Safe trip wishes to them.

  3. Wow---now that's SNOW, Diane.... It's much prettier than anything we have here. The kids will have culture shock (and weather shock) when they get home....

I know you will be so thrilled to have them back in Australia. How do they get all of their 'stuff' back home????

I'll bet you are getting very excited.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

After all the freezing weather we are looking forward to some sunshine, but not the humidity!! Please set the airconditing to zero degrees: to make us feel right at home! :)

We'll be on a diet of text messages for thhis last week. NOT LONG NOW!
    Love, Carol

  9. Yes I can tell your readers it is very cold, and weird too to be housebound so much. I'll be thinking about you and the kids and hope for uneventful weather so that they can get home safely.

  10. Hi Diane, Great to see the photos of London. Yes it's certainly cold here. They won't need their coats and boots in Brisbane! I wish them a safe journey and a good homecoming.

  11. You make me homesick with these pictures ! I love London so much ! yes, they all sit in deep snow my friends in Eastbourne at the coast too and even here in Belgium we have a lot of snow, which is quite unusual. Today I think we are stuck home because it snows as if the sky is payed for !
Fortunately I had such a nice weather when I was in Holland. I can imagine that you are happy to have your daughter nearby soon. My son is fortunately not that far away only about 200 km in Amsterdam.

  12. London is beautiful in the winter, what gorgeous photos. They are going to in for a very drastic difference in weather but maybe as you said they will adapt quickly. You must be so excited.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who has had trouble posting comments lately. It got so slow last night I finally gave up. I do hope they have it fixed.

  13. I guess I live in a cave. Until I started blogging, I really didn't know England got so much snow. I always thought it was mostly rain in the winters...like our Northwest. The whiteouts they have are incredible. But so darn beautiful. I would love to spend a year in England.

  17. Julie: They are planning on finding work and accommodation in Sydney. They will stay with us and David's parents for a while in Brisbane and then they will stay with sister Sonya at Bondi Beach until they find a place of their own. So looks like a few trips to old Sydney town for us. Might get chance to look you up, if you like.
