PRETTY PARKLANDS

Today we visited South Bank Parklands in the city on the southern bank of the Brisbane River. Parts of it were badly flooded in January but tireless workers are getting it back to it's former beauty. It is a great community park with lots of areas for walking, cycling, playing, swimming, resting and having picnics or BBQs. It is close to the cultural centre, restaurant precinct and university campuses.

The Arbor walkway

Confucius
Uni campus on the edge of the park.

The statue of Confucius was given to the people of Queensland from the people of Ji'nan, Shandong, China for QLD's 150th birthday in 2009.

There are streams and ponds all over the park, with fish. ducks and lilies.

There are a few Banyan Trees with their unusual aerial roots, which drop down from the branches, take root in the ground and then help support the huge branches. This is only a small tree compared to others that I have seen.

The common Bird of Paradise plant is flowering at the moment.

The water dragons were sunning themselves. This is a baby.

The road at the end of the park is pretty too. We walked from the park over the bridge to the old Botanical Gardens.

  1. Hi Diane, It's Easter Morning here in Tennessee... Hope you all had a nice Easter in Aussie land.

Beautiful park and gardens. One would never knew there was a horrible flood there. It's gorgeous.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  2. They did an excellent job ! it looks as if nothing ever happened.
This special Paradise plant looks the same as one I have seen in France. I even took a picture because I had never seen it like that in nature.

  3. As Gattina says, it's quite remarkable how well-restored everything looks, as it's certainly not evident that this lovely garden was affected at all by your recent, devastating floods.

Thank you for a delightful outing...we had rain here, today, so your sunshine was most welcome :)

  4. It looks beautiful. I am struck by that elegant and clever sunshade in the top photo. (We don't tend to need them here!) Happy Easter - glad the sun shone for you.

  5. Is that a bougainvillea? I suspect so ... but what is the wide strip of yellow/ A sunshade like Jenny suggests? Doesn't weem wide enough ... somehow ...

  9. Julie: Yes it is a covered walkway against sun and rain and yes it doesn't stretch the whole way across the walkway as it is not always needed, I guess. The walkway vary in width as it goes along too.

  10. Eileen: It is Autumn but it is still like summer but much more pleasant, a little cooler and not so humid. Our winters don't get very cold.

  17. It's looks as good as new - plants can bounce back so well after being waterlogged.

It's a shame about all the insurance disputes though. Seeing all those poor people on the tv who have been let down by the insurance companies. Tragic.

  23. A perfect spot to enjoy a relaxed day -- with lots of photo ops. Great place. Your lizards sure do beat our lizards! (As a native Pacific Northwesterner, we are still a bit surprised to see our little ones running around our yard and deck -- but yours would really surprise me!_

  24. A beautiful place! I was wondering about the flowers myself. I saw Julie's comment and think she may be right.
The wide yellow covering reminded me of a walk through Disney's Tomorrow Land or a deck on the Star Ship Enterprise. It's very modern looking.
You got some great shots of the flowers and what a cute little dragon!

  27. This is beautiful parkland! Everything is so lush and green there, due to all your tropical downpours. When we lived in South America, we had the same type of weather. It would pour for about 2 hours, but be fine for the rest of the day. That is a gorgeous little lizzard! You are such a wonderful photographer!!
