LUNCH WITH A LIZARD

We went to our local nursery, Neilsens Native Nursery. for some potting mix. It is a good nursery, which has won lots of prizes for being the best Native Nursery in QLD. It is quite big and it has a variety of native birds there too as well as a big aquarium section in the building at the back of the photo. Another added attraction is a little restaurant, which is how I con Bill into coming with me to the nursery. He's not keen on gardening but having lunch out he can't refuse. I didn't have my camera so phone camera had to do.

This is the view from the restaurant balcony, it is only a very small part of the nursery.

When you enter the restaurant you are greeted by Mr Lizard.

A Water Dragon
He came over to our table hoping for a snack but you are not allowed to feed them.......

.......even when it gives you the pleading look. He was right next to my chair and I had to step over him to leave. They are not shy here.

We walked around the nursery and heard this fellow asking for a scratch, I was a bit hesitant of his sharp looking beak so he didn't get a scratch from me.

  2. I, too, love visiting garden centres. It's truly one of my favourite pastimes. I've never had lunch with a lizard, though :)

  3. More like a trip to the Zoo than the Nursery!

That last fellow is a Long Billed Corella and they are about to embark on a big gasing program in Perth to cull their numbers. They are not native here, have no predators and are destroying all in sight.

Still a shame to see birds killed.

  5. So you lunched with a lizard! Nurseries are a real delight I usually come home with plants I never intended to buy!
Have a wonderful Easter - I'm off to my home town of Pt Lincoln for my Mothers Birthday and a family reunion. xx

  6. You have special fellows while lunching. I am already stunned by seeing a chicken or a sheep!

  7. I would have loved being there! Lizards are fascinating to me. A link out of dinosaur age.

  8. I like the idea of cafe in a nursery too. I don't visit ours very often because I just end up buying more plants that will die from neglect.

The comment above is interesting about the Corellas getting out of hand. We had a flock of cockatoos putting on very odd antics in the rain the other day.

  12. What a wonderful nursery! You did a great job with your phone camera. I'm guessing Mr. Lizard doesn't like that "Don't Feed" rule.

  13. Wow, Diane. We don't have any fancy dancy Garden Centers around here.. I would love to see that place.. Of course, knowing me, I'd love to eat also!!!! ha

Poor little lizard... Didn't you even give him a tiny little bite???? ha ha....

Beautiful bird ---although I wouldn't give him a scratch either...

    Thanks for a great post.
    Hugs,

  14. I would have been delighted to share my lunch space with this handsome lizard. What a hoot! The other fella with the interesting orange markings did have a lethal looking beak. I don't think I would have been tempted to scratch him either. A great nursery to walk around. I enjoy the ones around here but we don't have any this magnificent.

  15. What a great place! We are non-gardeners (now) and would enjoy it just as much as your Bill did.

We have tiny lizards all over the place, but nothing like that one.

  17. I would love to walk through this nursery with my camera, what a cool place!! Are those water dragons dangerous? They would kind of scare me. Maybe nipping at your feet or even worse? Wow to the lorikeet below!! So pretty, do you have exotic birds like this all around where you live?

  18. Hey there!

Whoa, this is an interesting place! While I'm sure it is very thrilling, I swear I'll freak out and would never focus on eating with that lizard scurrying around!
