Through my Window.

While sitting at the computer I suddenly saw my favourite bird through the window. It is a laughing Kookaburra. It belongs to the Kingfisher family. Its call sounds like laughter. It is a meat eater. It is often seen eating lizards and snakes. It picks them up in its strong beak and beats them to death on a branch. It can also pinch your steak off the BBQ or your plate.

It was so obliging to turn around to show you its tail. I can't believe how clear the shots turned out considering they were taken through the glass window

  3. Great photos! I love the sound the Kookaburras make. My daughter loves Australia! She took some college classes in Sidney. She told me that when she was on a tour a Kookaburra stole a sandwich from a fellow's plate, when he was away from the table, and the man only spoke German and he didn't understand or believe that a bird took his sandwich. I wonder if he still thinks that people were playing a trick on him?

  8. Great photos of the kookaburra. I had some starting to frequent my yard a while back but then the Willie Wagtails drove them away.

  9. Hi Mum,
Great shots! You'd never guess they were taken through glass.

I remember the Kookies laughing at me as I walked to school loaded down with my sports bag, hockey stick, trumpet and music stand! kooKooKaakaahahahaaa

  10. Hi Diane. Yes, these shots are great...can't even tell it was through a window. I remember learning some song when I was a youngster about the kookabura...he sure does have a big head for his little body. I guess he needs it to support his strong beak!

  11. Wonderful photos, Diane. They are so colourful up close, and that beak certainly looks like it could chop up your steak as well as steal it...lol. I wish we could see and hear the Kookaburras more often.

  14. Hi Diane, I'm catching up on blogs and think it will take me forever... ha

Love seeing your pictures with Bernie. What a gorgeous young man. Your daughter is lucky!!!! Of course, he's the lucky one--having her in his life.

I have always heard about a Kookaburra---but have never ever seen one before. There's a camp song I know about a Kookaburra in an old gum tree. Heard it?????

Glad to be home --after 3 trips back to back!!!
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  19. I have never seen a Kookaburra before but I've heard it's laugh many times in old movies in places it shouldn't be like Africa and South America. Great pictures.
