Pretty Trees of Spring

In Brisbane we don't get the colourful trees in Autumn but in Spring the suburbs hide under an umbrella of purple Jacaranda trees and red Flame trees.

The Illawarra Flame Tree is a native of tropical Australia. It loses its leaves in the dry season and then the flowers bloom. After the flowers the leaves reappear in the wet season.

The Jacaranda Tree is a native of Central and South America but has adapted well in Australia.

  1. The Brachychiton acerifolium is a fantastic tree, flowering when leaves have not yet, in Barcelona have some of these trees that bloom in June.
    Have a nice day.

  2. I want that orange tree! I wonder if it would like dry Arizona. How beautiful. We have lots of Jacaranda trees here. But when I was in California between 2005 and 2007, they are prolific there and soooooo beautiful. Much prettier than they grow here. Rainy places help. A Lot!

  11. Hi Diane

Both trees are outstanding! Such beautiful colors.

Thank you so much for you tip about changing s400 to s1600. I did that to all my blog photos in my last post and they do look sharper. I have to much to learn! Someone suggested I use Live Writer program as it automatically enlarges photos but I tried that a few times and didn't like the results.

Do you enlarge your photos yourself? May I ask what setting that you use for height and width? Do you take your photos on your camera in any special settings? I am confused as to if I should use high quality fine settings or lower on my SLR camera?

Thanks for all your help! I appreciate it very much!

What I wouldn't do for a jacaranda tree in my front yard - I love the colour.

  17. Two spectacular trees at the same time! We have Jacaranda's growing in pots on the deck in cold Canberra; I'm not sure if they'll ever flower, but the leaves are attractive anyway.

There are a lot of Illawarra Flame Trees growing along the far south coast of NSW, but I haven't tried one here yet.

Since Brisbane doesn't have the stunning autumn leaves, you deserve to have beautiful spring ones.

Do you have either of these trees in your own garden, Diane?

  20. I came by specifically to find these trees. Of course I remember the jacarandas in Brisbane but I don' remember the flame trees ... the red that sticks in my mind are the poincianas and poinsettias.
