OOPS I FORGOT

My darling other half especially made me a video to add to my post yesterday and I forgot to include it. Not a good move to keep harmony in the household. So here it is,  a super video of our jaunt on the cable cars.

  4. Last night blogger was not cooperating. I was going to make a comment on how much I liked that zifg zaggy street. It was great to see it in action in the video ... and you walked up it!!

  9. Hi Diane
Great video. Now I fully realise why your legs are so sore, the walk up and down "Lombard St", the trips with young Fox for his ice-cream and park plays, the Harbour Bridge Climb! It is a wonder that your legs still function - ha ha!
However, I can well imagine Bill when he noted that you forgot his video!
Oh dear, my dear Diane, I can see you doing extra garden chores with Bill lounging on the deck giving you instructions! Especially now that Brisbane is seeing that yellow "thingy" in the sky. Rain will not be a valid excuse!
Have fun in the garden! You won't forget again - ha ha!
    Great video Bill.
    Cheers

PS: I am going to have another look - I think I recognised a person from Sydney on that cable car, can the video be stopped?? My college and surfing mate from Manly, Dennis Staunton. If it is not him, then he has a twin!!!!

    1. You can stop the video by pressing the pause button (two little strokes like this ll )

    2. You have to run your cursor over the video to get a bar to appear at the bottom where the pause button is.

  10. What a wonderful video, Bill. Thanks for including it, Diane. But ... I am confoosed.

I realised during the video, that this cable car system is not a means of mass transport at all, but simply something from the early days that has been kept for its tourism value. To me it simply seems full of tourists. Is this true?

    1. No many locals use it too and you can see their frustration with us tourists when they are trying to make their way off the car. They usually sit inside and not hang on the outside. That is for the tourists. At one point the car was stopped by police as the president of Turkey was riding by in his cavalcade of security. The driver of the car said we will be stopped for about 30 mins then you saw all the disgruntled locals getting off to walk or find another way to their destination. Most mass transport is by trolley bus , buses , ferries and trains. There are only 800.000 residents the rest are tourists. It is a beautiful but cold and windy city.

    2. And it's not cheap to ride on the cable cars. It's $6 each time you get on, so locals may have to change lines to go from A to B ($12), then probably back again.

    3. I think they get a discounted pass.

  11. I've never seen one in action before. I know they have accidents with cars and there seems to be little protection for someone at the back if something runs into the back of it. I like the way the tram was turned. Everything seemed so well balanced. The crowds just watching it get turned are amazing and the people along the street taking photos make it looks like it was a special occasion but I guess it was just a normal day for the cable car and the staff. Towards the end I became confused on which side of the road it should be and thought it was coming down the hill backwards.

  12. My goodness, it looked like you were hiking up Lombard St. Yikes. Better you than me. :) Relax and enjoy your weekend.

  13. Bill does make an excellent videographer. I really enjoyed the video, especially seeing the machine that runs all the cables. That was fascinating. Thanks for sharing.

  14. Just a little more bout Lombard Street. The top section (the curvy bit) on Telegraph Hill has been featured in many films and TV shows.
    Vertigo (1958)
    Herbie (1969)
    What's Up Doc? (1972)
    Magnum Force (1973)
Monk TV Series and many others

  16. Diane/Bill

That video photo and the dates confirms that it is my 'best mate' from College,Squash playing and Surfing days. Dennis and Maggie were in SFO on those dates. My sister, Cheryl, who often lunches with them at Manly has confirmed the dates. I am completely "gob-smacked"!!
Thank God, there is nothing wrong with my observation abilities. I,only view about 7 blogs, and read every word, view carefully every photo and if need be
    ask questions, mostly by e-mail.
I think next time I see a tourist with a video camera, I will be ducking for cover - ha ha! You never know where you may end up!
I can hardly wait to see Dennis and Maggie in Sydney and ask them - "how was the ride on Cable Car #59? "
    Just incredible the coincidence!
    Cheers

  19. It is a super video...of course I'm looking at both posts at one time and they make a great combo. You're both talented! (And also, you look very perky after walking up that hill -- I was thinking about that when I was commenting on the first post -- wondering if I'd have as much fun now as I did last time, because maybe with all those hills, it isn't a great place for senior citizens either!
