ICE SKATING ON THE BEACH

Yes it's true! Can you believe it?

Here on Bondi Beach in Sydney there is an ice skating rink on the beach. It is an amazing sight to see people ice skating in the foreground and others surfboard riding in the background and......

...... others playing beach volleyball next to the ice rink. It is hard to see in the background but there are also lots of people standing on the end of the swimming pool ready to dive in for a race. It is the middle of winter and the temperature is about 17*C/63*F (Unfortunately I didn't have my DSLR with me so I had to use my old phone for all of these photos.)

In the evening Aunty Carol, Grandaddy and I took Fox for a walk on the beach.

The surf board riders are here all day and all seasons. Unfortunately for them the surf was flat.

Our grandparent duties are over tomorrow as we head for home. We will miss our daughters and especially this gorgeous fellow and his beautiful baby brother. (But we are looking forward to some R&R)

  4. There you are in the center of winter opposite our seasons. Of course Ice Skating, but 63 F is pretty warm. Who ever came up with freeze ability in 63 degrees, more power to 'm. Very cool.

  9. That is weird, a skating rink on the beach! It makes me laugh you mentioning the winter temperatures 17 degrees C is midwinter. We are in mid summer here and we also have that temperature. It should be 24C at this time of the year, but each day is a surprise this summer, what will it be? Low or high, rain or dry, storm or quiet. It is a weird summer.

  10. Bondi! The place of surprises. Besides the surf riders, there seems to be body surfers in the water also. Pity you didn't get around to the pool and show photos of the Bondi Icebergers club swimming with the blocks of ice! That's the one that amuses me most.
Anyhow not to be outdone by Bondi, Diane, Brisbane has installed an ice rink in that square in front of the Town Hall!!! Hopefully it will be still there when you return.
Have "fun" on your return trip. A little birdie has suggested to P & M to have you gainfully employed counting the new trees/shrubs in the paddock when you call in - ha ha! If I can do it, then so can you two!
    Cheers

  15. What incredible photos - ice skating on the beach with a clear blue sky...

....then to finish with that gorgeous little guy in the puffer jacket!

Why do I suddenly feel homesick for a place in Australia that I never came from?

  17. The photos are ok, at least they reasonably sharp, not like some I have seen taken with mobile phones.

Hard to imagine ice skating at the sea..lol, made me laugh, but it looks neat.

  20. Diane, looks like a great time and walk at the beach. Your Fox is a handsome little boy. It is neat to see that there is ice skating at the beach while surfing and swimming is also happening. I have not been on ice skates in years. Great photos and I love the last shot of Fox. Have a great day.

  22. Bondi is an amazing place: I used to live in O'Brien Street. I think I prefered it in the winter though: in summer one cannot move! I am glad I am no longer there, however. Even though I have to return today to see my solicitor. Hope the trip back north was easy enough for you, and now for you both to get a little down time.

  23. I've spent lots of time walking on beaches but never imagined seeing people ice-skating there -- quite amazing for sure! It's so fun to take little ones to the beach... what a great day you all had. And I definitely know about the mixed feelings on leaving family.
