HOME SWEET HOME

Last Tuesday afternoon we left Sydney and drove towards Brisbane and home. We stopped at Maitland and stayed overnight at a friend's place. The next day we drove the rest of the way to Brisbane. It took us eleven hours. The new car was easy to drive and we swapped driving every 2 hours. We were keen to get home to our own bed and our own space. However, we really loved being with our daughters and grand children as we don't see them very often.

 Granddaddy will miss his boys.

I wanted a photo of the whole family together but Fox wasn't going to look up for me. The iPad is more entertaining than the camera.

Okay, just for a second but Banjo didn't manage it.

Banjo is two months old and is very alert, smiles and tries to sit up. He is very advanced but I could be biased.

Fox is such a boy. He loves emergency vehicles and plays with toy cars for hours making all the appropriate sounds. He liked me to play with him.

It was lovely to see our drive way lights welcoming us home. The next day it was shopping, washing and paying bills. Today ironing and looking after one sick grandaddy, who brought home a sore throat, cough and the sniffles.

  1. Well, for goodness sake - I BEAT COLIN! Glad you are back safe and almost sound after your hectic baby-sitting stint. Get well quickly Bill and please keep your sniffles to yourself.

  2. Yep Ann by 21 minutes, cherish the moment - ha ha!
Pray tell Ann what is the difference between Sydney sniffles and Brisbane sniffles - are they coloured maroon (QLD) or blue (NSW).
I shall gladly share my sniffles with Grosvati over a bottle, if he supplies, of that delightful Chateauneuf du Pape, preferably a top year vintage. Are you reading Grosvati?
Furthermore, dearest, sweetest "Sis", did you do a tree/shrub count at the Hunter Valley estate? I wish to know the heights, widths, losses and living. I think there are about 100 to count. If I am sent out to do this Hunter River estate duty, I think the two of you should have done the same. Plus the pulling away of weeds near the roots!
Also I went to the "shearing shed" today for a #5 all over haircut, I think it is about time young Fox went also.

Anyhow great to know you are safely back in the new car, I suppose your garden is now awaiting a lot of attention?????
    Welcome home
    Cheers
Colin ( he, with an abmirable haircut at last!)

  3. Ah for those who may notice that the time shown above was more than 21 minutes, well I had a few interruptions. 5.16 ( Ann) 6.01 (Colin).
just getting in before Julie observes the discrepancies. One has to be very alert these days - ha ha!

  11. I know how good it is to get home after a trip, even if it does mean all kinds of chores need to be done. I hope Bill is feeling better by now. Your pictures of your daughter and her family are wonderful, even if you couldn't get both boys to look in your direction at the same time. Fox is very handsome and Banjo has an adorable smile.

  12. There is a lot of truth to the saying "home sweet home." Looks like you had a great visit and made some new memories too.

  13. Yup, mixed feelings! Your little guys are just adorable. I read once that the times people catch colds etc most often are when they are under 5, their kids are under 5, or their grandkids are under 5. So no surprise granddaddy brought back a few germs -- hope he feels better very soon and sure he feels like it was worth it!

  14. The boys are both so adorable. Love those photos Diane, the one of Bill with the boys is great and I love the individual photos of Fox and Banjo. I know you will miss them but doesn't it always feel good to get back home?

  15. Hah! I am slowing down, Colin. I am wondering, however, how long a #5 haircut is. If #1 is nearly bald, then #5 must be 'beatle' length.

Grandaddy, get well soon. Grandmammy, don't slave away too much!

  17. Love the photos Diane, those grandsons of yours are adorable and what a wonderful time you must have had them them and with the rest of your family. I'm like a homing pigeon, once I know a vacation is over I am always happy to get home. Hope Bill gets rid of that nasty sore throat very fast.

  18. Well Julie, a #5 is of the once "college" in the 1950s hair cut style, not the Bodgie cut of the slick hair covered with blyrcream (?)or whatever, the name was. Also we dyed courtesy of lemon juice and some other substance our hair to be blonde - surfie blonde! Surely you must remember those days???
Sometimes you did end up with a green tinge, but that was acceptable.
So I am not bald. The good thing is that you don't have to comb your hair. Saves energy!
Also then we were respectful, otherwise the Police would give you a quick kick up the arse and march you home. None of this silly business that goes on now. Strange, isn't it? We all survived to become better citizens.
Maybe sense will prevail again, I hope, but I suspect you and I, Bill and Diane will be kicking up daisies.
    Cheers
Colin ( He with the beautiful #5)

  20. Hi Diane, thank goodness I have finally found your blog and managed a quick catch up. I just LOVE your little family: Fox is certainly a boy and of course our grands are far advanced, lol! Thanks for all your visits. I certainly enjoyed your followers' comments here on this post! Hope to find out why I cannot see your blog on my dashboard. Sorry to hear Bill has the sniffles. Hope he's better soon.
