Today I flew to Sydney to attend D2, Sonya's baby shower. This is the first time I've ever done a day trip by plane. It was quite exciting. Bill dropped me at Brisbane airport in the morning and D1, Carol picked me up in Sydney.

Carol and David have found an apartment in Sydney after moving from London. It is in Vaucluse, an eastern suburb, which stretches from the harbour to the ocean. Carol took me to their apartment first before going onto the baby shower.

It has a beautiful view of the ocean from their balcony, lounge and bedroom.

There is a park in front and walkways going all the way along the coastline.

Even though we were expected at the party soon. I couldn't resist going for a walk up to the headland. As I looked back I could see their apartment block. (the one in front)
Then I looked south. It was a magic view. I didn't have time to walk up to the next headland where the view north is even more spectacular. So I can't wait to visit again and do some serious walking.
Then it was off to Joanne's house at Bronte Beach another beautiful suburb ten minutes south from here.

Joanne is Sonya's long time friend, who arranged the baby shower. Joanne's mother and I were friends before either of the girls were born. We were neighbours, so Joanne and Sonya grew up as friends from babyhood. They have both travelled separately and lived in many different locations but have always kept in touch. Now they live close by again and both are having babies together just like their mothers. That's uncanny!  The only difference is that little "Pepper"(above) will be a few months older than "Fox", whereas the mothers are the other way round.

Just before the boys went off to have fun together, I took this shot of our two girls with their boys. It is such fun to see them all together after they have been living in different countries for so long.

Sonya's sister in law, Kate, flew up from Melbourne as a surprise to be at the shower. Sonya had tears she was so happy to see her. Kate bought gifts from Sonya's in laws, who live in Melbourne.

Joanne's house has a nice balcony overlooking the sea. It was quite breezy and cool. Beautiful white roses decorated the party. There was lots of food and lovely friends too.

Grandma to be had a good time .
Sonya opened lots of charming gifts and then it was time for me to say goodbye and Carol took me back to the airport (in my little car that they have borrowed) and I flew back to Brisbane. Now I must go to bed ready for work tomorrow. What a great day!

  1. What a lovely, lovely day and time. Fox huh, must be a boy on the way.

Can you please send me an address for either you or Sonya? I want to find a special little something from Memphis for the baby.

  2. Even though it was QUICK, it looks like you had a wonderful day. The shower looked lovely and both daughters are just so beautiful.

Glad Carol and hubby have found an apartment. Looks GREAT... Wow!!!!

When is the baby due? Will you go to Sydney and spend some time then --after the baby comes?

  3. Looks like a gorgeous place to live - and it sounds like you had a really lovely day. You've cheered me up!

  4. My goodness. Your pictures are so good I feel like I was invited to the baby shower but forgot to bring a present! They really found a lovely place to live. What a view!

  5. This is terrific stuff! I know just how you feel. Isn't it wonderful that they can all be together over this next few months. You must be feeling on top of the world!

  6. Wonderful photos, they've got a good place - nice views.

  7. WOW!!!! Vaucluse, that's class with a Capital "C"! Looks like you all scored a brilliant day, weatherwise and the views are magnificent. You and Bill will be in 7th. heaven when visiting and taking scenic photos. Oh, yes be sure you have "Doyles on the Water" on the agenda as an eatery! You will be in "seafood heaven".
Looking forward to "verbal" reports on Thursday when I hope we get weather like that at Cleveland.
    "Green with envy"

  8. A plane trip and a lovely party! What an exciting day for you and everyone. I would have wanted to take a walk along that path too!

  9. Wow! For some reason I use to say that Sydney is one of the most beautiful cities in the world; and, unlike Stockholm, the whole year round... ;))
    Great party too...

  10. I don't know what a Baby Shower means, I first thought about an exposition about Baby bathes, but then I understood it must be something else, lol ! What a beautiful view they have from their appartment ! Eternal holidays I would say ! and what a nice party. My son too has a friend since his birth and his mother and I were pregnant together. Only I am still waiting to be a grandma ! you lucky girl !

  11. Diane your expecting daughter is absolutely glowing with joy...and so are you!! Congratulations to all of you! Becoming grandparents is such a wonderful event!

It was good to see all your family and the lovely apartment your other daughter and husband found. What a beautiful view! Best of luck to them there.

I'm flying out by myself this week to see my son and family in Colorado..I can't wait!

  12. Now that you can see how easy the flight from Brisbane to Sydney is Diane, I feel sure it will be a regular thing. Especially for Grandma!
As usual, the pics are great.

  13. What an amazing view and beautiful place to live! Wow..

Your daughter is glowing..just glowing.and to say you are a proud grandma is an understatement..

  17. I can't think which is the most beautiful....your girls happiness, the fantastic views, or maybe it's Grandma D's happy smile. What a lovely day, one to long remember, and I'm sure the girls really loved you being there.
