WHAT A DIFFERENCE A RAIN MAKES!

Not long ago we were suffering a drought and catastrophic bush fires. Then came the rain. It has put out the fires and got the farmers jumping with joy. (Although some unlucky ones have still missed out on rain.) Around the suburbs everything has turned green. Here are some photos from morning walks. Some in Daisy Hill Forest and others in Exillis+Dorset Park.
When we've had a lot of rain (remember Queensland is tropical and we get very heavy tropical downpours.) this turns the Daisy Hill Forest tracks into slippery mud slides full of big muddy puddles so we usually walk on the concrete pathway in Exillis+Dorset Park.

Priest Gully meanders through Exilis+Dorset Park but it had been dry for months until the rain came.

By the time we could get out after days of rain the creek was running wildly and you could see by the debris how high and wide the water had been rushing by.

And the shrubs and bushes were springing up again. My walking buddies are not impressed with me keep stopping for photos.

The grass is so high the wallabies are hard to see now.

When the rain stops for a few days we go into the forest again. We start off on the concrete path through the picnic area but soon we head off into the forest onto the dirt tracks.

We were amazed at how green the picnic area was compared to a few moths ago.

Same area a few months ago.

Even the trees have got more brighter leaves after dropping them when it was dry.

  1. It must be a great relief to have the rain after all that has happened. Fingers crossed you don't have the locusts next!

  5. I remember big floods around Brisbane, it seems it is all or nothing. Hopefully you will not get the floods this year but you will have enough rain for the farmers and enough to keep any more fires at bay. It looks so pretty and green at the moment. Hope you both have a good weekend, t'other Diane

  8. WOW what a difference those rains have made, Diane.I know what you mean about walking with others who can get impatient when you stop to take photos. It happens all the time between Grenville (Pat) and myself. And, it's why I enjoy walking alone as well.

  9. I am so glad you have had rain and now have green and beautiful.. when bob and I walk, he gets tired of me stopping to take photos. I had the idea to go with Diane because she takes photos too. but the thing is she looks up at birds and I look down at bugs and debris.. we both ended up waiting on the other. I love you trail

  11. Feast or famine ... fire or flood ... seems to be the new reality of climate change. So nice to see your green coming back though and what a relief that the fires have been quenched.

  12. So glad for you and for Australia that some rain has come. We've been watching the news of the fires with horror, from over here.

  13. We knew the rain would come but I think it is a while since the last big drought and had forgotten the transformation that the big rains bring. I have been surprised at how much the gum trees have perked up since the rains and those that didn't make it now look very dead beside their fresh washed counterparts.

  14. Oh I know Diane! Even though we haven't had as much rain as you the four days we did have made a tremendous difference. I love these images and understand what a relief it must be to have the fires out at last, it was such a long time ✨

  16. That looks a lot like our part of Florida, where summer is the rainy season. (Except no wallabies hiding in the grass here. ) We try to work it so we’re here to enjoy the green results of the rain, while not actually being here for it. But sometimes the seasons bleed over into each other, so I know a bit what tropical downpours are like.
