We celebrated St Patrick's day early by having our monthly dinner with an Irish theme. The Dinner Committee and our resident Irishman put together a fun evening. We were asked to dress in green, The chef cooked some traditional Irish meals and we had Irish dancers entertain us, after which they encouraged some residents to join in the fun and learn to do an Irish folk dance.
We were lucky to have this evening just before we have all been asked to think about Social Distancing. So all our clubs and activity groups have now been cancelled so we don't know how long it will be before we have another dinner.
Even Colonel Sanders came.
Girls from The Trish Williams School of Irish dancing entertained us. We raised over $500 to give them towards the expense of going to the World Championships.
Our village mascot dressed as a lepracorn. When our daughters saw this photo of us we got into trouble for not Social Distancing. They are both very worried about us and the virus, because we are in the vulnerable age bracket and Bill has heart issues as well as me having bronchitis often. They have laid down the law and told us to stay home. So we have been grounded by our children. Talk about role reversal!

Our CEO and Irishman Pat opening the proceedings.
I'm one of the village photographers and I took a shot of every table but forgot my own table.
Then it was the residents turn to entertain and have fun learning an Irish dance.
My neighbours and the CEO (back left) and Residents Chairman (back right) and one of the volunteer barmen (standing). We have a fabulous community.
The same here, our children worrie more as we do. We just stay home most of the time, but have to feel fresh air once a day an make a short walk along the dike or in our neighbourhood. We also have a garden to get some air!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great time but I am alert and alarmed by Irish food. Stew? You can still go out for bush walks.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you had a celebration before everything is cancelled. It is a real concern for the elderly in seniors homes so please do take good care. Happy St. Patrick's Day and may you and Bill and all the residents where you live, stay safe.
ReplyDeleteHello, looks like a fun St. Patrick's Day party. I love the last photo, you should frame this one.
ReplyDeleteStay safe and healthy, calm and happy. Enjoy your day, have a great new week!
I so envy the green top hat! I've no Irish blood in me so far as I know (just Welsh, Scots, English and French to name a few nationalities I do have) but I would have worn that hat! I can watch Irish dancing until the cows come home too. So perhaps there is a bit of Irish in me somewhere. Anyway I'm glad that you enjoyed yourself before you have to go into quarantine or social distancing. My son, daughter-in-law and 2 year old grandson are on holiday wandering around the coast around Wilson’s promontory at the moment. I have to say that I am a little concerned because they still have to get back here to Lewis at some time.
ReplyDeleteWe still have dinner venues open here but no guests allowed. In fact guests are screened and only allowed in resident apartments - not in common areas or dining. Children under 14 are banned. All our outside entertainment has been canceled, also trips. We had first case reported in this county yesterday so county executive closed the Mall, bars, restaurants except for food delivery.
ReplyDeletethat is one very plain looking mascot. ha ha.. the two of you look adorable.. glad you had one last good time before you were grounded... love the dancers and would have enjoyed that
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good time was had by all. Good job you had it early. We are well and truly in lock-down here. Stay safe t'other Diane.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is good that you were able to have this celebration, Diane, before things are possibly shut down or cancelled. We also received a call and text from younger family members cautioning us to be careful. But since my husband is a former firefighter and now volunteer with the local community emergency preparedness team we are most likely more well prepared than some others we know. We are self-isolating and thankfully do not have any pre-existing medical issues. Hope you and Bill and your neighbors and friends stay safe as well.
ReplyDeleteWorring changes nothing
ReplyDeleteYou do have a fabulous community, Diane. I sure someone in your community will find a way for you to interact while maintaining Social Distancing. Bless our daughters for caring about us!
ReplyDeletelooks like everyone had an enjoyable evening. good that you got in early. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were able to get your Irish Dinner in before such events were cancelled. Our children haven't grounded us yet, but we are getting a lot of "Are you guys all right?" texts and phone calls.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if your area had that stinkin' virus... Obviously you do... Glad you got your St. Patrick's Celebration in EARLY.... Looked like so much fun!!!!!! You two certainly made a good decision when you moved there.... What a FUN life!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe are okay here in Cumberland County, TN now... Our county has NO Corona Virus cases at this time. George and I are just being careful --but not in panic-mode (like so many other people).
Stay safe and well.
Hugs,
Betsy

I'm so glad you got this wonderful party in before all has been cancelled. Same over here, everything is closing down now, and more cases of the virus are cropping up every day. Thank you for sharing the photos, they are great and very uplifting :)
ReplyDeleteRole reversal from your children, so true! Our son is the same way because we are in that age bracket and we are getting a 'talking to' :) We are not going anywhere for a very long time according to what we hear. Surreal!
OhI've said it before Diane but you guys sure know how to have fun :) My children are the same, ringing up to make sure we are doing the right thing, have to smile hey but lovely to know that they care :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a very fun event, and your pictures are great.
ReplyDeleteOur social distancing in my neck of the woods started about a week earlier than yours. So much panic and craziness. Can't wait for things to get back to normal.
That's quite the dapper gentleman you're married to, Diane! You and Bill stay well! We're in isolation at our house, too - haven't seen family for 3 weeks which is hard. We do get out and exercise daily. Your community has such fun events. Hope this virus can be stopped, and we all can go back to our lives soon.
ReplyDeleteYou are soooo lucky !! Here it's awful soon all psychiatrric cliniques will be overcrowded, read my post today ! What makes me so angry is, that in the Netherlands only the restaurants and bars are closed and in the UK nothing, normal life. But I think it will change there too.
ReplyDeleteIt looks real nice your Irish evening. Anyway we will see if this lock down is not money thrown out of the window ! we can compare with the Netherlands. There the schools are closed too.
Apparently the persons at risk are not the old once anymore but the 35 to 45 ! so you can give the advice to you daughters. My son as given up instructions because in the Netherlands they think that every person will find its own immunity !!
What a great time you had at this 'last' party for a while. Love your photos and those smiles are wonderful to see!
ReplyDeleteFeel free to share at My Corner of the World
How wonderful that you could have that party and dancing. It looks like so much fun.
ReplyDeleteGreat memories.
I do hope you all stay safe and well and can get together before too many more months go by.
Sue
It will be the government not just the kids locking you down soon. After the scenes on Bondi Beach this weekend I think they have been spooked ... people are not taking this seriously enough.
ReplyDeleteStay well! At least we both have somebody to isolate with. I worry about single friends. Do you usually eat in a dining hall or do you have your own kitchen? We have looked at senior communities (thinking ahead, not quite ready yet) but right now I am glad we can fix our own simple meals.
ReplyDeleteGlad you managed such a fun evening before having to isolate. Aswith many European countries we are in lockdown now. It is avery strange state of affairs. Take care my friend.
