TENNIS LADIES' DAY OUT

At this time of the year our tennis club have a day out including lunch to celebrate  Christmas and the end of the tennis season until February. Our co-ordinator, Judy organised us lunch at Redcliffe, a northern suburb on the banks of Moreton Bay. We went by public transport just for fun and so we could chatter together. We had to catch two trains and a bus. It included the brand new train line to Redcliffe Peninsula. It took two hours but we didn't notice it with so many friends to chat to.

We arrived a little early for lunch so after a coffee we went for a stroll around the bay and out onto the jetty.

We also took a walk down Bee Gee Lane. It is a tribute to the Bee Gees Band. The Redcliffe community are very proud of the fact that the Bee Gees grew up in Redcliffe after migrating from England as children. It is where they first started their recording career. Recently, Barry Gib came to Redcliffe to advise on the statues, photos and stories and he also opened the Lane when it was complete

The tennis ladies and the Bee Gees. You can see that there was a strong breeze blowing off the bay. At least it kept us cool. We are heading for a heatwave over the weekend.

This is another statue of the boys when they were young, like they were when they lived here. I remember seeing them perform on the Gold Coast in 1963.The tennis ladies got sick of posing for me but kept up their humour and smiles.

So then I tried candid and caught them all laughing. You  can see in the background how the lane wall is full of photos and stories of their career. There is also a huge TV screen where their shows are playing as well as interviews with Barry. So while you stroll down the lane you can sing along with their music. I tried to make a little short 40sec video of this. It also includes an interesting sculpture at the end of the lane that rotates in the wind. It is mesmerising. The sculpture is called OPTO by Phill Price in 2011.

Then it was time for lunch at Preecs's Restaurant, The food and service was good. We were on the footpath in the shade with a great view of the bay. The wine went down well.

Some ladies indulged in desserts. They looked delicious but I abstained.

  6. I hope you enjoyed your whizzing through Albion on track 4 where no trains stop anymore???
It is the greatest lunacy that QR could come up with.
I now climb Mt.Everest twice a day - in and out of the CBD. Not good for my blood pressure!
Anyhow to matters otherwise on Redcliffe - that dessert would have been on the top of my selections with icecreamn!!!
Would give me strength on my return to "fly throught" on the train at Albion to Bowen Hills and then disembark climb another Everest to platform 2 for my return to Albion!!!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah - give me strength with QR and the hopeless "Minister for Utter Stupidity" aka Public Transport.

    1. You won't have to put up with it much longer when you move to Mexico.

    2. Terrigal is not Mexico. I know you are jealous, ha ha.
Still I will have to get my "www dot" card from NSW rail,
the seniors card for all day travelling for $2.50 !!!
This "www.dot" business is almost as idiotic as my
now Mt.Everest climbing. I will fill you in when I see you
      and T.O.H. for refreshments.
T.O H. will do back flips when he learns of this "www.dot" business.

  8. Well every day is a school day. I 'knew' that the brothers came from Chorlton-cum-Hardy a suburb of Manchester (the wrong end of the East Lancashire Road - I was born in Liverpool) but I'm ashamed to say that it never registered with me that they'd gone to Australia. In fact I have just looked them up and discovered that they weren't even born in Manchester but in the Isle of Man. One lives and one learns. A great band for all that.

  9. Sounds & looks like a fun outing Diane - a great way to wind up the year's sporting activities.... and how dedicated are you to embrace a 2 hour public transport journey to reach your destination for lunch?! (How that adventurous spirit fits so well with your blog title!) :-)

  11. I enjoyed your walk down Bee Gees Lane what a great group. I always wanted to see them in Concert but never did. I saw their brother Andy when he was the opening act for Neil Sedaka. Now Maurice and Robin are gone and that is sad:(

  12. Diane, I enjoyed this post so much! Looks like the most awesome day out with friends. What a great thing having the Bee Gees tribute, and the video really brought it to life. My sister was a HUGE Bee Gees fan. The best part was seeing you all with your smiling faces as you shared the day!

Five days till we head north!
