EVERGLADES HISTORIC HOUSE AND GARDEN AND COFFEE

During the weekend we spent in the Blue Mountains our young ones took us to the Everglades Garden to see the autumn leaves, which we don't see at home.
In 1932, Belgian born Henri Van de Velda bought a section of bush in Leura overlooking the mountains. He employed the Danish born landscaper, Paul Sorensen to create a garden for his proposed weekender. Over four years he created a terraced paradise uniting romantic European style with the raw magic of the Australian bush. Sorensen worked on the Everglades until Van de Velda's death in 1947. The National Trust take care of it now.
There are thirteen acres of gardens with stunning views.

Van de Velda's weekend house was a mini mansion. It had a coffee shop inside.

Guess who found it? The views of the gardens from every room were beautiful.

The house was in the Art Deco style.

The view from the above window.

We descended from the terrace gardens into the glades. At last I was surrounded by the most beautiful display of autumn leaves.

 This is my favourite photo.

There was a little stream and waterfall running through the glades.

Waited forever for the tourists to move but they didn't so they are included as a point of interest.

As you can see I couldn't get enough of the coloured leaves.

We must do this again next year maybe in Spring too.

  1. When I saw your title I thought you must have crossed continents. In fact looking at the photos you could be in another continent. The reds, golds and yellows of the foliage is something to look forward to when Autumn arrives. It must a sheer delight for you to experience it on your home ground.

  4. Yes, those autumn colours are very rare seen in your country. We are used to the changing seasons.

  13. Many happy memories of Everglads and I have a nice photo of my husband and myself taken with a camera sitting on a rock with a timer so that we could get those nice autumn trees in the background behind us.

  14. Beautiful area, great photos. I can understand why that one is your favorite, it is gorgeous. I love those last two shots, the colors in those Autumn leaves are so vibrant but all these shots are breathtaking. The coffee shop remark made me smile. I am usually the one who finds them. Gregg doesn't drink coffee, nor tea for that matter.

  15. For a second or two there I thought you were in Florida (we live very near the Everglades National Park). But oh my gosh, "your' Everglades is just a stunning place -- what an absolute work of natural art they have created. Gorgeous. (It would be interesting to see it in Spring too ... and of course that is the huge difference between yours and ours -- not much in the way of seasonal change in Florida!)
