FESTIVAL FINALE

Every year in September, the Brisbane Festival takes place. It is a cultural event, which includes ; Music, Theatre, Dance, Visual Arts, Circus, Cabaret, Opera, Comedy, Film, Writing, Light Show and Riverfire.
Riverfire is a stunning choreograhed pyrotechnics and fireworks display for 30 minutes, held on the last night of the festival. It stretches all along the river, which snakes through the city. Explosions of lights and fireworks erupt from bridges, buildings and barges on the river.
People had been arriving all through the day to find a good spot on the river edge. There were half a million people expected so we decided to watch it on TV. These photos are of our TV screen.

The river snakes through the city.

The firefall from the Storey Bridge

The Light Sphere is the most popular art installation with lustrous mirrors and shimmering reflections., designed by Tony Assness.

I can see why the show is called Riverfire.

  4. The display looks lovely - would it beat Sydney's New Year?

  6. The spread of fireworks across a large area certainly makes it look rather spectacular. But TV would definitely be the way to go.

  9. You got some marvelous captures from your TV screen. This looks like an amazing event, although I, too, would be hesitant to brave those crowds. Thanks for sharing it with us.

  10. Something for everybody there.... except for us as well large and crowded festivals don't quite hold the appeal they used to. You got great "screen shots."

  15. Great photos Diane. I was able to see some of the skyward flashes from my balcony and when the Air force fighter super hornets did their sweep down the river, it could be mistaken that Brisbane CBD was under attack. Very impressive indeed. One viewer asked, "would it beat Sydney's New Year?". I don't think so, Sydney harbour being so much bigger and Sydney tops the World on displays on that night, but Brisbane improves every year.
    Cheers
