MY COUNTRY

I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror-
The wide brown land for me!
(A verse from "My Country" by Dorothea Mackellar

  1. Beautiful. I love it. I'd really like to see Australia. Sans pythons, that is. I can't even imagine seeing kangaroos in the wild. What a sight!

  3. A land of diversity that's for sure.

How are you holding up with all the rain down there? We saw all the flooding on the telly this morning - devastation everywhere.

  7. Hi Diane,

I guess everyone of my era learnt that beautiful poem which is applicable to this day...and Lucy do not have to go to the wild to see kangaroos....Diane has the smaller cousins, wallabies, visiting her back garden....and has the photos to prove it....
    Cheers

  8. Lucy, Thank you . Its a great country with a few nasties but I bet your desert has some too.

Michele, A poem I remember learning at school but it made me feel proud to be an Australian even though I was born in England.

Cindy, We have been lucky with the storms. No damage except our mulch has been washed away in a few places. Other suburbs have been hit really badly and 2 lives lost in flood waters.

    Sassy, welcome to blogging.

Lizzy, Yes it is still relevant.

Dianne, As I was only a small child when I came here I feel very Australian, but I'm also proud of my English heritage.

  13. Hello Diane...
I always think of the flying kangaroo add when I hear this....

We have had a bit of rain ourselves today...I was just saying to my hubby that this year summer seems to have taken off at a more reasonable pace than the last few years have.....

    Have a wonderful weekend....
