Our Singaporean, Chinese managing director and owner of our village, Chiou See, has bought another village to add to our family. It is called Elements@ Con Noi, Carindale, which is a Brisbane suburb not far away from us. The hand over date was 1 Feb so Chiou See organised a Chinese New Year celebration as an event to mark the hand over day as something special. Residents from our village were invited to attend and meet the residents of Con Noi. Although, Bill and I are hesitant of mixing with a lot of people in these Covid times, we bit the bullet and attended.
It was an interesting morning meeting the other residents and comparing notes. Naturally, they were very keen to find out what it is like having the dynamo, Chiou See, as the managing director. We calmed their fears. They seemed pleased because their last manager didn't do anything to enhance their living conditions.
We enjoyed the lion dance and the Chinese snacks.
She is an energetic woman!
ReplyDeleteSo colorful and fun! And I bet delicious, too. We celebrated the Chinese New Year, too — with takeout because Covid rates still too high to dine in.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like lots of fun. I presume everyone has had all their vaccinations so you can only hope. Our neighbours who have been so careful have just had COVID, they caught from a friend who picked it up from his son. Thankfully the friend who is mutual did not visit us! Keep safe, Cheers t'other Diane
ReplyDeleteWow everything looks good
ReplyDeleteI suspect the residents at Elements@ Con Noi will come to be very thankful that your bundle of energy has taken over their village. This looks like another wonderful event.
ReplyDeleteI accidentally deleted Madsnapper's comment and there is no way to recover it. However, I still had it in my inbox. So Sandra I hope you don't mind but I'm copying it and adding it here under my name.. So sorry.
ReplyDeleteSandra says: I like the lion, have only seen them on tv and in movies. i am thinking that was really fun. I am sure the new place will love the director like all of you do. I have forgotten, do your rent your place or did you buy it
Here is my reply to her question:
We bought it. We have a 99 year lease because we can’t own the land. Our kids inherit it and they can sell it. The scheme operator renovates it. The kids have to pay an exit fee for that. We discussed this with them and they don’t mind as long as we are happy and safe.
That's a nice idea to put the two together and at the same time celebrate the Chinese New Year. I just read your answer to Sandra's comment ! It's the same system in house buying like in the UK. Dario has a lease of 80 years because the land belongs to the queen. I found that funny because you will never live 80 years if you buy your house at 60 or enter in the Guiness book of record ! I rented, put the money on several banks instead under my matrass Dario doesn't need anything, he has more then us, I think I will leave the remaining money to Toby, when you are young ou need the money more ! There is a new law here now that you can leave your possessions to you grandchildren without paying a lot of taxes.
ReplyDeleteThis is such an interesting post of home ownership that seems a bit different from south Mississippi. Now I'm off to explore some of your other posts.
ReplyDeleteLove to see your gatherings Diane, always very happy events with great photos. Chiou See does a marvelous job keeping you all entertained with these get-togethers. Applauding her for all she does.
ReplyDeleteYour manager seems like such a wonderful, kind and creative woman.
ReplyDeleteGlad you could get out and visit.
Sue
Getting the two communities together for a meet and greet was a great idea and celebrating the New Year certainly made it a lot of fun. Glad to read that you and Bill both decided to attend.
ReplyDeleteLooks so colourful, I'm sure a lot of fun was had too.
ReplyDeleteGreat photographs.
All the best Jan
She really *IS* a dynamo and based on what you've shared about your home, the new community is lucky -- and not just on Chinese New Year! A nice celebration indeed. I too was very interested in your reply to the comment above; read it to (my) Bill and he said "wish we could do something like that." Me too. (We can't because as far as we know nobody in our home areas is offering any such option.)
ReplyDeletePS: Hop you are both well -- like you we are hesitant about big groups, but occasionally take a chance now that pretty much everybody we know or know of is vaccinated fully. Still ....
