THE VILLAGE NURSERY

Our village gardener started a little nursery to grow plants from cuttings from the village gardens so that when he needed new plants he didn't have to buy too many. However, there are some residents who are keen gardeners and they offered to help the gardener. The gardner showed them how to and what to do and Beryl and Rex took over. They cleaned up the area and then asked some other keen handymen residents to help build enclosures for the little plants to protect them from being eaten by wallabies and possums.

The nursery is behind the zen garden. A volunteer, Malcolm, made the path. He is still working on it .

This enclosure built by John and Alan is so strong they nick named it the Gorilla cage and one of our resident artists painted the sign.

Rex and Beryl who do loads of work striking plants and caring for them even though both of them have health issues.

The babies are kept in this green house. It was very hot  and humid in there.

Alan one of the volunteers, who erected this enclosure called the possum house, its to keep them out. They also put in a beam for hanging baskets.

When the plants are big enough they are taken out of the enclosures.

Sometimes they have too many plants for the gardener so they give them away to residents for their own gardens.
