GO TIGERS!

It was the AFL Final last night. AFL(Australian Football League) is one of the football codes played in Australia. It started in Victoria and it is extremely popular in that state but all the other states play now. However, the final is always held in Melbourne, but due to the second wave of Covid, which hit Melbourne badly, the final was played in our state Queensland for the first time ever so it was an historic match. So due to restrictions in Melbourne, our daughter's family couldn't have friends or family visit to watch the match together on TV and have a traditional Footy Finals Party. It was sad for them.

So when we were invited to a AFL Footy Final Party in the village we decided to go and support Sonya and Bernie's team, The Richmond Tigers. We were encouraged to dress in our teams colours. The Tigers played The Geelong Cats. We watched it on the big screen in our community centre and our CEO, Chiou See and her partner, Brendon provided us with meat pies and chips which is the traditional food at a football match.

It was an exciting and very close game but The Tigers won in the end. After the match Bill won a prize for being the best dressed Tiger supporter. Last year Sonya had sent him a Tiger T-shirt and I made him a Tiger cap.

Chiou See (CEO) and Brendan hosts of the party.

We watched the match on the big screen in the hall.

Geelong Cats scored the first goal.

Bill won a prize for being the best dressed Richmond Tigers supporter.

  1. So that doesn't look like US football nor does it look like soccer. Is it rugby?

  9. Unfortunate for the sports mad Melbournians but great for Qld.
I can't recall but was there a limitation on numbers at "The Gabba" ?
I still call the game "aerial ping-pong" ...........it was bred into my genes.
I'm still a Rugby Union person.

Looks like you all had heaps of fun in your village.
    Cheers

  17. I thought you were talking about football (soccer) I didn't know that you use the American word. I thought America was the only country which doesn't play "football" with the feet, lol !
Bill's costume is really nice ! No wonder that he won !

  18. What a great night you had, and I like the hat too. I watched the game and enjoyed it although I'm a Port Power follower. I am always amazed at the power and fitness of the players, but I'm a weakling these days, and only ever played netball as a teenager. PS I have reverted back to my new(old) blog and hope I can regain some new enthusiasm.

  19. Strange to see you with others and no masks!!! We are back in full lockdown and cannot leave the house without signed, dated and timed forms. I want to go on holiday but it will not happen this year now. We had planned a month in Italy in June but that vanished out the window.
Stay safe and keep well, t'other Diane

  22. I have never followed sport so would have given this night a miss. My sister is a big fan of sport and attended the games once she got back to Brisbane (until the Brisbane team missed out on being in the final).
