YOU SEE MORE WHEN YOU WALK.

When Bill and I retired we found that we didn't really need two cars because we did most things together. So when BMW wanted $5000.00 for a service and repairs we decided to trade both cars in on one new one. One car has been fine for the last eight years or so until today when I accidentally made an appointment on the same day as Bill's "Coffee with the Boys Day." Luckily the podiatrist is only about a thirty minute walk from home. So on this beautiful spring day, I walked instead of driving. It's amazing how many extra things you see when walking. We travel this road every time we leave the village.

Come with me :

When I reached the top of the hill the view over our suburb, Springwood, and across to the ranges was uplifting.

On the way down the hill I spotted a monkey in a tree.

In another yard I saw a big grass tree.(Xanthorrhoea)

A splash of colour

Bottle brush (Callistemon) and a parrot but it's too well hidden.

More soft toys to cheer you up during Covid 19. We have good news on the Covid infections in Australia. All States have brought down the number of daily infections to single digit numbers. WA, SA, NT, ACT, TAS and QLD have no community transmitted cases. They have some in quarantine from overseas. NSW and now Victoria have very few cases. Victoria, where my daughter and family lives have had a very strict lockdown after they got a severe second wave of infection, but it worked! They brought the numbers down from hundreds a day to 4 yesterday. It was hard on everyone and the economy. Well done Victorians! Anyway their premier is easing restrictions. The curfew is over and our boys can go back to school on 12 October after months of home schooling.

Our girls went to this Primary School in the early eighties and the podiatrist is just opposite. Luckily I didn't have to walk home back up that hill, Bill picked me up on his way home from coffee.

  1. Yes we walk a lot these days, Sadly our infected people amount has increased and new restrictions are ordered now again for three weeks. So we stay mostly home and make a short walk in the neigbourhood.

  2. 8 years ago you retired, well that went quickly.
You do see more when you walk, as do drivers in the cars see more when they don't drive.
Love that monkey in the tree :)
No cases in Tasmania - border still closed. Victoria have done well with their lock down, seems the way to stop the virus from spreading..

    1. Sorry, I forgot to mention Tasmania has no cases either.

  3. Hello,

You do see a lot while on your walks. Is that a real monkey in the tree or a stuffed animal?
I love the bottle brush tree, pretty blooms. Take care, have a great day!

    1. It is a soft toy. People put them out for all the walkers to see and make them smile in these hard times.

  4. Good news indeed! We're on our second lockdown, and schools are closed. They suspect kids of being among the spreaders of the virus.

  5. i have tried to get bob to give up and have one car, his truck just sits in the gargage and has to be driven to keep it running. so far hard head says no... what a beatiufl walk to the doc office, you would have missed all that beauty and sunshine, i wondered about going to a podiatrist and then walking home. it all worked out fine and so happy your virus is way way down. if we could get all our states and the president to dow aht you did and lock down we could do the same, we are still getting new infections, in our tiny town we had 44 in one day. it continues to rage here in USA because our president says it is a hoax and refuses to say out loud what is true

  6. When I saw the hill I thought..oh my..downhill is fine but ..groan...on going back up it..
    Glad you got picked up.
Good news on the COVID situation. I truly hope it continues.. wish we in California could get back to "normal".

  7. Oh I agree with you. When I used to cycle a route that we often used only to drive, I would find so many interesting things that I never knew existed. When I started walking I found even more things en route.

Hope this finds you both well and staying safe. T'other Diane

  8. Now I can honestly say I've never seen a monkey in a tree on any of my daily walks! Glad you got a lift back up that steep hill too. Good to hear your Covid numbers are coming down again. I wish ours were.

  9. Nice day and lovely surroundings - the perfect mix for a walk. Most of the toys that were on display during our Lockdown have now been taken back to whence they came. Shame really, even though nothing much Covid related is happening here, we are still locked within our borders and could all do with a little cheer. Love the sight of the bottle brush against the blue sky.

  10. Hi Diane, I too enjoyed your walk and all the sights. All the greenery and native plants especially. It is so heartening about infection rates going down in Australia. Wearing masks is second nature now (mandatory in regional Victoria also) and I think that has certainly contributed. Beautiful weather this time of year too, love your photos!

  11. That is the first thing I thought when I saw the steep hill, getting home. I've certainly seen a lot during my ISO walks over the past few months, but I am getting a little bored with the same places.

  12. Beautiful view from the top of the hill. Nice to hear the Covid numbers are down in the 2nd wave there. Currently our numbers are quite high.

  13. I agree that walking is the best but there are times when only the car will do. Walking uphill after a visit to the podiatrist would be one of them.

  14. That's indeed a very nice way ! I also see a lot of monkeys but they are humans and wear a mask ! I have sold my car too. One is enough, we live in the city center and unless we have heavy things to carry we can walk to all we need, even cinema and theatre !

  15. That’s so true! I’ve seen lots of details in my daily walks during the covid virus where I have to stay in the neighborhood that I hadn’t seen driving through. The monkey in the tree fooled me as I was trying to make it into a real monkey!

  16. My kind of city walk! Pretty views, little visual surprises (who can’t use some extra smiles these days) and all downhill ))! (Not to mention, you were heading to the perfect place in case the walk made your feet hurt.,). Congratulations to your country for the good work on Covid. Can we borrow your leader and some good sense?

  17. I very much enjoyed going along with you on your walk, although I will admit I'm glad for the ride back up the hill. I rode a bicycle to work fro many years (when I was much younger) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Betsy and I have gotten along with only one car for over fifteen years now.

    All the best Jan

  20. You live in a very pretty area Diane and love that monkey in the tree, and the unicorn and little dog. They would definitely bring a smile. Good to hear your Covid statistics are going down. Yes, well done to all who helped that happen.

  21. Yes I must get out and walk more. I have enjoyed this walk with you. We ended up buying a second car because we wanted the old expensive one to last longer so we can tow the caravan and we were clocking up a lot of miles travelling between our homes.

  22. You are right that you DO see more when you walk. Luckily, I can walk to my dental appts and other places as we live near downtown, so I often do. Thanks for taking us along on your walk, Diane. It was quite different than some previous ones. Also, glad the numbers are down in your part of the world. Always good to read good news.

  23. You got some great photos on your walk, and you're right that you do get to see more, plus, unlike when you're driving, it's so easy to take pictures along the way.

  24. I loved coming with you on your walk, Diane. Your sights are so different from mine. We've talked about going to one car, but haven't made the final decision yet. Rarely do we drive separately.
