We flew to Sydney yesterday to spend a few days with our daughter, Carol-Ann and SIL, David. The weather was perfect today and our young ones took us for a drive all around the harbour from Vaucluse on the South Head to the North Head. We stopped for coffee (of course) at a cafe with a fabulous view overlooking the harbour all the way down to the city.
Coffee at a cafe on North Head
Looking down the harbour to the city from North Head
After coffee we went for a walk along the Fairfax Walk to the Fairfax Lookout. Looking up the northern coastline and the Pacific Ocean.
Looking straight across the heads to South Head and Vaucluse, where Carol and David live.
There are quite a few lookouts along the walk which is on top of the cliffs.
Although I lived in Sydney when I was young, I had never visited this beautiful area called Sydney Harbour National Park, North Head.
We walked back to the car and headed towards the harbour town of Manly for lunch.
Manly Beach near North Head
It was a week day but the beach was full of people probably mostly tourists.
We had lunch in a Greek Restaurant. I had Skarra, slow cooked lamb. It was delicious
Wow what a nice summer landcape.... Great beach and so blue sea
ReplyDeleteLovely photos to warm a grey winter's day in England. The views of the city across the harbour are quite stunning and makes me wonder why the only photos we see of Sydney in magazines are the bridge and the Opera House.
ReplyDeleteNice to see lovely warm days, I hope ours arrive soon. This also brought back many happy memories of the two visits to Sidney to see my SIL. A trip we will never do again unless we can win the € millions so we are able to upgrade on the flight. N's feet are a problem, and any flight longer that 3 hours is not possible any more. Sad as we would also like to return to S.Africa, and we have friends in the BVI. At least we are lucky we have many places we can go by car living in Europe. Have a good weekend t'other Diane
ReplyDeleteI certainly was a glorious day today. Perfect for beside the harbour.
ReplyDeleteLovely to see your daughter and her husband. Diane your photos are lovely and clear...do you have a new camera?
ReplyDeleteI have a new small Sony Cyber shot for travelling. Its a beauty does nearly everything my DSL does.
DeleteHello Diane, looks like a great day with your daughter and SIL.. The view of the city and the coastline are beautiful. Looks like the beach is a popular one and very crowded.. Your meal does look yummy! Great photos from your day. Have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteJust as well we did that today, as they've forecast rain for tomorrow. It was a great day.
ReplyDeleteHi Diane, how lovely to be spending time with your daughter and son-in-law. Gorgeous scenery! I had several friends who emigrated to Australia years ago. I remember them living in Manly. With all the moving around we did I lost touch with them years ago. I often wonder if they are still there.
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to see your home country has still places to explore you didn't know.It is a lovely landscape along the coastline.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh time with your daughter is the best. Sydney is so pretty. I have family there somewhere:) Hug B
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great day and that Fairfax walk looks like it has amazing views. Bet you had a great day!
ReplyDeletethe cliffs are breath taking and i think it should be named womanly beach. LOL... it is beautiful. my favorite photo is the sun shining through the umbrella. awesome shot of a fantastic place to visit. i would love this. love the skylines in the sunshine sky
ReplyDeleteLovely sunny skies and beautiful views. How nice you got to see some of the area you had never seen before.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful and I'm totally jealous. You had a super day for wandering, photography and spending much needed time with your kids!
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS seashore and blue water! lovely skies!
ReplyDeleteThese beach shots are just what I need on a wintry day here in CO! I like your cityscape shots, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful pictures .... and summer time ! The 22 year old grandson of my friend Nicole is near Sidney working in a family as babysitter for an 11 year old little girl. He wanted to learn English and now he is homesick and misses Belgium ! That I really can't understand !! He is treated like a prince, got his own car, and has a swimming pool ! And he is well paid for this very easy job !
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fabulous day out - and I could just eat that meal!
ReplyDeleteA nice walk and such beautiful views of the city. It's lovely for the city residents to have a national park so close by.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Sydney very much on our visit! We spent one day at Manly beach, and I loved the ferry ride across the bay to and from.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots from North Head of our magnificent Harbour and the northern beaches.
ReplyDeleteI am "Gobsmacked" that this is your FIRST trip to North Head???
On real clear, non-sea haze days, you can see way up the northern beach coastline.
Some people reckon they can see way up to Palm Beach, but I think that is over exaggerating
the imagination!!!
Oh how I miss my favourite surfing beach of my youthful days!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaah - sigh!
Hope the weather remains good so you can enjoy the outdoors with Carol-Anne and David.
Cheers with a tinge of "greenness" !
Colin
PS: Same funny sun / rain weather here! Your garden is being watered!! ha ha.
Ahh, you've captured Sydney at its sparkling best - thank you. Your photos are terrific! Hope you have a lovely stay with the family.
ReplyDeleteI'm genuinely surprised that you've never been here too! It was a lovely day together. Gee lunch was delicious!! Gorgeous shots.
ReplyDeleteDon't go.
Xxx
Oh, you are killing me with all these beautiful, summer photos. I can almost feel the warmth through my computer! I sure would love being on your side of the world right now!!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful summer ... Fun when your family lives in beautiful places isn't it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect day! Such a great advert for our wonderful city of Sydney.
ReplyDeleteOh it looks so lovely, it is another bloody hot day here in Newie
ReplyDeleteWhat a contrast it was to see the beach and people dressed for summer, which of course, they are enjoying. here in New England we have LOTS of snow as you saw in a post this week and this weekend more is on the way. Thanks for sharing your trip, Diane, it looked wonderful and that meal :-) looked so good!
ReplyDeleteWow! That rocky coastline on the Fairfax walk is stunning! I used to live in Sydney too, many years ago, but I don't recall visiting the spots you've taken us to on this post. Maybe there'll be a 'next time' some day!
