MY GARDEN IS HAPPY

At last it is raining in Brisbane and my garden is happy.
For months it has been dry and the plants were dying.

The birds were hunting for water and nectar. This is a Noisy Miner which is a native Australian honey eater. It is sometimes confused with an Indian Myna, which is an introduced bird and is a danger to our native birds. The Noisy Miner is predominately grey where as the Indian myna is mostly brown.

The sun was shining and making beautiful winter days but the plants needed rain. I like gardening but I am hopeless at remembering the names of plants. I just enjoy their beauty. This one gets coloured leaves or I think they are called bracts.

It has been raining for a few days now. It is not a summer tropical downpour it is lovely steady rain. . It makes the plants droop with the weight of the water but they are happy. The garden is happy.

The lavender  is bent over but it is happy. The rain washes the colours bright.

Unfortunately, the rain is almost too late for this tree it has many dead branches. Hopefully it will revive.

Loving the rain.

Drooping but happy. My camera was getting wet, time to retreat inside. I'm happy for the garden but I have to go out this afternoon and I'm not happy on wet roads.

  2. What a difference steady rain makes Diane, beautiful shots. It is just like spring here today, we need more rain but are grateful for what we have had so far. The grevillea is a wonderful plant for attracting birds.

  3. Hi Diane, yes the rains have been widespread it seems; lots here too over more than a week and apparently another week of 'showers' forecast. Lovely to see your garden photos and know that the rains will save some plants that might've been on the brink of giving up. Your honey-eaters will enjoy the nectar plants...

  4. This follow up rain is pure "Wunderbar" to ears and eyes!
    So soaking for the soil!
The better news is of course the outback is also getting a follow up.
Maybe prices will fall in the supermarket fresh food sections - well maybe?????
Sorry can't enthuse over the "noisy miner (myna)".
    Cheers

  7. No I try to avoid driving on wet roads too Diane. So pleased you're enjoying the welcome rain. A lovely series of images from your garden too.
Our native Miner is a lovely and welcome bird. Here in north Qld the indian myner is taking over and destroying our little native birds. There is a family and extended family of around 20 in my block and we all have traps but they are cunning and we don't catch many. Council seems unconcerned regardless of complaints.

  8. Wonderful photos! I'm glad your garden is happy. We've gotten some heavy rains here too after a long hot month. I hope it won't rain all autumn and winter.

  9. We have had rain too but not buckets of it like they have been having on the coast. Our garden was certainly looking in need of water but I was not unduly worried because it is always dry here in winter. I like that orangey plant.

  10. Gorgeous images, Diane! Your plants are happy from the rain..I am glad the native Noisy Miner is the bird in your yard and not the non-native Myna. Have a happy weekend!

  13. Your rain made for some nice photos. We had some finally, too, and things have greened up some. With it came the humidity - not quite so welcome!

  22. Amazing photos and I really like the one of the Miner - a cool looking bird. Rain is good - we finally got some and the firefighters are very happy! We also got a major drop in temps but looks like we'll be back to normal in a few days.
