Yesterday we went down to the Gold Coast to Rainbow Bay for a teachers' reunion at a friend's holiday unit. Our friends, Ann and George, have a unit on the 14th floor.
The view was stunning.
After the fabulous seafood lunch and the guests left we were asked to stay for a sleep over. So we were privy to the sunset.
The next morning the surf board riders were out in force taking advantage of the waves whipped up by the wind. All the above shots were taken from the 14th floor.
But then we went for a walk to get a closer look at the crashing waves and the adventure seeking board riders. TOH stayed on the boardwalk while Ann, George and I walked along the sand. It was windy but when we rounded the headland we had to take off our sweaters.
There were plenty of female board riders too.
I have been trying to get used to our little Canon G1X camera as it is smaller to take on vacation than my DSLR. I was pretty happy with today's practice.
Good photos. Funny how young men are so difficult to get out of bed in the morning, unless there is surf involved, when they leap our of bed before dawn.
ReplyDeleteSpectacular photos Diane, the one of the young woman and the city skyline was amazing and the surf, fantastic captures. I was impressed with all your shots. Gorgeous place!
ReplyDeletewow! these are awesome! i could almost feel the spray of the waves!
ReplyDeleteLove the sunset, and your photos with the smaller camera are excellent...due to you :)

ReplyDeleteSeriously! You and your new camera did AMAZING! I love love these shots and wish I were there!
ReplyDeleteDiane , what a beautiful weekend away! The beach is wonderful ! I love to watch the waves! Lovely sunset capture!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing set of photos I am more than impressed. Loved the Gold Coast when we stayed there. I remember getting lost though trying to find our accommodation, and we drove up and down Tambourine mountain a number of times. Long before GPS's and our navigator did not do a brilliant job. It was all fun though in the end :-)) Keep well t'other Diane
ReplyDeleteFabulous crisp shots. The crashing surf looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI think your photography has improved with your new smaller camera.
ReplyDeleteYes I wonder about those board riders and WORK??? Still at the ungodly hours they start their board riding, it is possible and highly likely that they then go off to work, after some wave rides. My brother's young neighbours manage to combine both.
Oh my what bloody awesome photos, talk about a bloody great view
ReplyDeleteYou got some great pictures with your smaller camera. The view from the 14th floor is absolutely fantastic. You got some great pictures of the crashing surf.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures. Your little Canon did a FABULOUS job. What a beautiful place. I'd love to visit Rainbow Bay --and of course, I'd want to stay in Ann and George's unit on the 14th floor. WOW!!!! Great pictures of the surf and of course, of the sunset.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
Spectacular images of the waves and the surfers. I wonder sometimes too how many people are sitting on terraces here during "work"times. As if everybody is on holliday, specialy young people.
ReplyDeleteYou should be VERY happy with your little cameras. The photos in this sequence are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting. I am hoping to get another update this weekend. I babysit our grandson while his mom teaches and life is very busy again now that he is back. He is two and of course, the most precious thing in our lives! Will look at more of your blog next week but your photos are absolutely stunningly beautiful!!!!!
ReplyDeletewhat a great view and your photos are lovely. the camera does a good job.
ReplyDeleteOooh a grownups' sleepover! How fun. Beautiful beach and how lovely your friends have a winter condo there. (Reminds me of Florida or the Gulf Coast of Texas).
ReplyDeleteYour small-cam pix are great -- bright, clear, beautiful. And sure easier than lugging a big camera around on a vacation. Mine goes in my pocket or fannypack every time I leave the house (or RV).
Your Canon took fabulous photos, Diane! I loved the city skyline view over the water. Enjoy your reunion!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are absolutely stunning. What a beautiful place. I love the sunset, the beautiful crashing waves, everything. You must have had a great time
