FARAWAY FAMILY

As most readers know my only grandchildren live on the other side of the Pacific Ocean in LA. I don't get to hold them, hug them or kiss them very often but thanks to the digital age I get to see them on skype, on iPhone videos and photos. I nag my daughter to send me photos every week and she does.
Here are some recent ones:

Fox has a haircut
Mexican Fox

Man eating dinosaur.

I can sit up now!

Banjo and mummy keeping warm in Palm Springs
Not fazed at all.

"When we get to the Ice Cream Shop you have to call out "YO YO!"
Then they'll stop and buy us a frozen yoghurt."

  1. I love the Santa photo. What a wonderful keepsake. I collect all the Santa photos of my grandchildren every Christmas,

I also adore that last shot. I'm thinking "double trouble!" Lol! They are beautiful boys and it's wonderful that you're able to keep in contact across the wide ocean.

  2. You have some wonderful photos here to remember and keep track of their growth and development. Not the same as visiting in person, but so much more contact than previous generations would have had when apart.

  4. What a lovely photos. It must be hard not to hold them but as you say thanks to modern media you can share a part of their lives anyway.

  5. Lovely photos of your family in LA. Santa one is lovely to have along with the last photo, so cute.
I bet you miss them heaps as we miss ours who are not as far away as yours...but that's the way it is for many of us.

  6. Lovely photographs. This modern world is so much better for families that are divided by long distances. Your hearts go out to those emigrating families of 100 years ago who would never see their parents or children again.

  7. ohhhhhhh but to be the owner of those beautiful blue eyes. These photos are just darling. Next time I'm in LA I'm looking them up. (no worries - not really) I feel the same way about the kids but I've not had the skype experience yet. It's set up on my end but they don't instigate it. Grrrrr.

  11. My, how precious they both are! Fox is getting to be so big. I'm sorry you see so little of them in the flesh, but thankful for technologies that bring them closer. I miss 4 of my grandchildren all the time, too, as they live in California....and I don't!

  13. Beautiful moments for Grandma & Grandpa back here in Australia ..... lots of ways to interact by social media but nothing beats actually being there.

  14. I tried to visit earlier this morning, but the images refused to load. They are all good now.

Golly they are growing quickly, Diane. Fox looks so different with his woodsman hat on, and his hair all hidden. They seem to be more physically alike, now, whereas at the beginning I thought them most unlike each other.

I am up to my neck in moving boxes at the moment. I should break the back of it by the end of tomorrow, except for all the garden things which I can only do on Monday. The big move is scheduled for Wednesday.

It has been a horror start to the year, as my brother (younger one this time) has been in ICU with double-pneumonia. He went in on the last day of December and went to a ward just this week. He is learning to swallow and walk again, but will only be allowed to return home at a fixed weight. Not good. He is all of 62.

  15. Isn't technology wonderful. Although photos are no substitute for the real thing at least with skype you can interact a little more with the grandkids. Great photos.

  22. Beautiful photos of your precious grandchildren. My favourite is the last one where the two boys are communicating, maybe, mischief in the making.

One of my grandchildren, now 17 months old gets the ipad or stands in front of the computer looking for me, telling his parents "Get Archi"! Whoever invented skype needs a medal!

  24. Too cute for words Dianne and how good is Skype for keeping in touch..what an amazing age we live in!

  25. I can just imagine the smiles on your face as you scroll down your computer page. Skype is the greatest invention for far and away grandparents. Gone are the days of taping the children's excitement as they opened presents on Christmas morning and sending the tapes hundreds of miles to the grandparents. Lovely little grandsons!

  26. Wonderful pictures and wonderful expressions.
Yes the digital world has reduced the gap, but still to hold the child's hand and go for a walk is a different experience :-)

  30. Your grandsons are so adorable!

All the hard work and aggravation we went through moving was worth it for us to live closer to our children and grandchildren, Diane. My daughter will be having her baby next week by c-section as the baby is breech--I am so happy I'll be here to help her afterwards! I hope you get to see your little guys again soon!
