A HAT IS A HAT IS A HAT

Our actor son in law gave TOH a special hat. It is one which is only given to people who have worked on a movie with Legendary Pictures, so TOH liked this hat very much. TOH wore his prized hat last week when we took our visitors on the City Cat .

The Cat picks up quite a speed in between stops and you guessed it THE HAT blew off into the river.

We couldn't believe it when the Cat slowed down turned around and the deck hand fished out the hat with a long pole. The captain had seen the hat blow off from his cabin as we were on the front deck.

This is a commuter ferry and we never expected this kindness.

I was also surprised that I was quick enough to capture the event on camera.

One lucky boy gets his hat back. Queenslanders are known for their friendliness. This was a good example of it. It also impressed our overseas visitors.

  1. Quick thinking by all concerned I'd say. I suppose TOH was thinking about how he was going to explain losing the hat. Kindness comes when you least expect it Diane.

  2. this is fantastic, i don't think there are many captains that would do that on a commuter boat.. i can see by the giant sized smile how happy TOH was to get it back and a big plus you were ready to SNAP

  3. That is real friendliness, on a commuter ferry! Hooray for you too, catching it all on the spot with your camera.

  4. in these days of hurried everything, to think the cat-captain would slow on his timetable and stop to fish out the hat was ADMIRABLE. That would've been very dissapointing to lose the hat, it now has a story attached to it...

  5. I like to think that people are in the majority of being good and kind. (I hope so.) :) Glad he got the hat back.

  6. Wow - Lucky Bill.
I guess the "City Cat" being a more friendly touristy mode of travel than buses and trains, these kind gestures/practices have been put in place. Pity I didn't live near the river and be able to use the City Cat for my forays into the CBD.
This gesture would certainly impress Brisbane visitors. Top marks to BCC.
    Cheers

  12. Ah! Isn't that nice .... I guess the Captain didn't know the story behind the hat.
It's sweltering hot here today Diane ... forecast to get to 44*C and I'm thinking of your Swiss visitors and hope they have found a cool spot in Adelaide.

  17. What a happy, wonderful end story to what could have been so sad! I lost my favorite baseball cap on a windy day while walking on a local pier. I wasn't so lucky as to have a friendly deck hand with a long pole around, so my favorite topper is at the bottom of Puget Sound now. Glad that TOH still has his gift and that you got such fun photos to share.

  19. Oh I just knew that was going to happen Diane, but the 'rescue' was quite unexpected, how fantastic, I can so see why your overseas visitors would have been impressed, pretty cool! Just in case I haven't said it already, a belated very happy and healthy New Year to yourself and TOH.
p.s. I believe there is a tennis thing being played in Brisbane also, but the Hopman Cup is here in our super duper new arena and I'm so thrilled that it's being seen all over the world, that is too cool for school haha!

  20. Perth should be greatly proud of the new tennis stadium. I am glued to the TV watching the Hopman Cup.
Stunning performance by the two young Australians last night. Seeing was believing. Have watched it since this tournament started over the New Year period of 1988/89.

  26. Wow, this is phenomenal! This is the kind of hospitality I experienced when I visited your beautiful country, not this exact type of situation mind you, but the people are so accommodating and extremely helpful. The kindness, helpfulness and generosity is exactly what makes me want to return to Australia one day!
