BY GINGER! The Girls Won.

Last weekend our friends, Ben and Lynn from the Gold Coast came to stay with us. Ben and Bill migrated from Switzerland back in 1967 and they have remained friends ever since. Ben also married an Australian girl. The Swiss boys taught the Australian girls how to play Jass, a Swiss card game. So, whenever we visit each other we play Jass, the Aussie girls against the Swiss boys. Us girls don't often win but last weekend 'we took them to the cleaners'. We won 6 games to 2. The Aussies beat the Swiss at their own game. Yeah!!
Lyn brought me a bunch of Ginger flowers from her garden. They are beautiful.

When you squeeze them a sticky liquid runs out smelling of ginger.

It's a weird, wonderful flower.

  1. Beautiful flower...I've never seen it before. So perfect I though your first photo was an arrangement done with items from a craft store! Time with old friends from far away is just the best! Sounds like you had a great visit.

  7. Australia has some weird and wonderful flowers and plants, that's for sure. When I visited there, I expected "unusual" animals compared with North America, but wasn't prepared for the flora to be equally different. Fabulous!

  8. Oh, well done on putting those two Swiss boys in their place! I seem to recall the last time you ladies had beaten them, too (you'd gone to their home and had sat in their atrium and you shared some lovely pictures of their little tropical garden with us)?

I have never seen 'ginger flowers' They certainly are strikingly different, Diane and I love your arrangement and 'tableau' you created :)

I've never seen a ginger flower before but the colour is gorgeous and I can imagine the ginger perfume would be wonderful wafting through the house. xx

  12. Another name for those beehives is shampoo ginger and you can use the liquid as a shampoo. I tried it and it does foam up, but I wouldn't say I was totally sold on it! It would work in a pinch though!

  13. Desiree, you have a good memory. We did go to their place and play cards overlooking their small tropical garden but I don't think we won. We started off winning but they over took us in the end.

    africanaussie Thanks for the name.
