NICE THINGS AND NOT SSSSSO NICESSSSSS THINGS IN THE GARDEN

My friend Cindy has dubbed us Tarzan and Jane as our garden has turned into a jungle with all the rain. Today Jane had to clear a path so Tarzan can get the wheelie bin up to the road on garbage day.

Then Jane had to cut back the lavender so as to reach the compost heap.

But Jane got sidetracked by the beautiful Banksia plants. She remembered seeing them like this a week ago but today they are big and blooming.
Then Jane thought she had better get back to clearing some more jungle until she saw thisssss fellow sunning himself.

I think it is a harmless Tree Snake but it could be a deadly Brown Snake.

I'm not game to get too close.

He was quite long. Can you see his tail finishes in the bottom right hand corner? Jane is leaving the jungle just as it is in that corner of the garden, even though it badly needs attention.

  1. Hello Diane. Thanks for visiting my blog. I love your "jungle" but looking through previous post I see you are always hard at work to tame it. :)

Seems like you had some excitement with this snake visit. :)

  2. "George, George, George of the jungle, watch out for that tree...snake" I've got that song in my head now...

"Jane" you did very well to get those shots of your slithery friend. Where was Tarzan in his loin cloth to save you??

And hey, pythons are not my friends, just constant companions it seemed!

    Hilarious post!

    Cheers,

    Cindy

  4. You know.....when I even see a snake in a photo I can feel every nerve in my body crawling back and forth. I have no idea why, since I don't hate snakes. They eat lots of things I do dislike intensly..(rats etc) and their natural habits fascinate me. But I just don't want to be around them. I don't know why that feeling of dread comes over me when I see one is so inbred in me. I'm not even afraid of running into one out in the desert here. I'm weird!

  5. Honestly, "Jane"? I think you and Tarzan are on your own in this corner of Paradise! Yikes! I went to the link page as well since I'm fairly new to your blog. Oh my gosh. Thanks for sharing (I think). Actually I plan to send the link to our Texas grandson, the (11-year-old) naturalist. He loves reptiles and amphibians.

  6. I want to see a picture of Tarzan, dressed in a leopard slip sitting on the tree and Jane with the snake around her shoulders ! Then the post would be perfect !

  8. Ha Jane - er diane;) good on leavig the snake to its own corner! I have quite a few posts on how Grant and I caught and removed snakes from our garden last year while our gardeners (literally petrified) stood and watched us! Thanks for a delightful post.

  9. Welcome to Nature Notes & Signs of The Season Diane! It is a very small meme with a few dedicated nature lovers and I welcome you anytime you want to add a link. I don't mind snakes but we don't have any dangerous snakes here in this part of NY state so it's easy for me to say. He or she is a fine looking snake and I am with you in letting him have that part of the garden. ..Michelle....

  11. The banksia is lovely!! I hope the slithery fellow is the harmless kind, not the brown snake.

  12. Diane!

Well that counts me out for blogging lessons until I know that the slithery thing has been dispatched to the "Happy Hunting Grounds" or wherever snakes end up!
Phone the snake removalists to come and clear that part of the garden, tell them it is a vicious brown snake! Don't mention that it could be a so-called harmless tree snake, anyhow they also can give you a nasty bite!
Good luck with the snake hunting!
    Cheers

  16. Oh my, please be careful in that garden. I don't like the looks of that snake at all. Did you try looking it up on the internet to see for sure what type it is? I would.

  18. "it could be a deadly Brown Snake", she says in passing.

Used to be I didn't want to move north because of the humidity. Snakes in the garden is another very good reason I think I'll stay in Sydney.

  19. I love the macro with the water droplets, those are beautiful blooms.

Your little garden visitor looks harmless enough but I have no idea what a deadly Brown snake looks like don't listen to me. As long as they are harmless I have no problems with snakes in my yard.

  20. It's been quite some time since I've visited but I've enjoyed catching up in my reader this morning. Thanks for making the whole post available in your feeds. Looks like you've been busy with a variety of interesting activities. I love the colorful parrot in your header ... found the python consuming a cockatoo astonishing ... your city views and lovely flowers too. How exciting to have a grandchild on the way!
