BEAUTIFUL NATURE CLOSE BY

We have been lucky to have light rain for the last few days after a long dry spell. On our first morning walk since the rain we noticed how clean the trees looked and there was even a trickle of water in the little creek that our footpath follows. We were surprised to see a koala too. The koalas in our area are dwindling in numbers due to their habitat being destroyed by urbanisation and also because they have the disease, chlamydia.  This morning we walked through Exillis Park and along Priest Gully. This area is a few hundred metres from our village.

The Koala was on the ground but ran up the nearest tree as we walked by and then he kept an eye on us as we tried to get a good photo in between the trees. This tree is a Paper Bark (Melaleuca). Koalas don't eat their leaves they only eat certain species of Eucalypt leaves. However, during the day they will sleep in any type of tree. They are nocturnal and hunt for the right trees at night. That is why it is unusual to spot them during the day.

My walking buddies, Helen, Joan and Maureen. We solve the world's problems as we walk and talk. They need loads of convincing to get into one of my photos.

An unknown tree making a yellow carpet.

Back in the village the flowering gum tree is happy to see the rain.

The Kangaroo Paw is also looking good after the rain.

  3. Protecting koalas is becoming more and more essential.
This week we have been driving to Adelaide along the coast road when a koala crossed the freeway and sat in the centre, looking around but not moving. It was inevitable that this precious creature was bound to be hit by a car :(

  4. A great walk with friends. I like flame trees and I need to find out why they leaf drop in your climate at this time of the year.

  7. Good to see a Koala, you know I haven't seen many at all. The flowers are beautiful on the gumtree and it is lovely to be able to see what you see when you go walking with your ladies.

  8. Hello, Dianne. What a marvellous world blogging is. I have been following Barb in Colorado for many years and just discovered that she has another Aussie blogging friend. Here I am in Mt Warren Park and you are nearby in Springwood. How wonderful to see the Koala changing trees. Fantastic photo. The flame trees are at their best at the moment.

  11. Your place is so lovely for walking. Love the Koala scampering up the tree. That's so different from our urban environment in California.
Glad you got some rain to brighten things up.

  13. Seeing you and your friends out for a walk, Diane, is quite different than the walks we are taking here because while you are all in warm weather wear, we are bundled up for winter temps.

  14. How special to see the koala That's awesome What a shame that he is being threatened. For a moment I thought you have autumn with these leaves falling down but that must be the wind. You must have spring just like us
