I've often posted about my morning walks in the forest but there is a new track now which we explored this week. Our usual tracks had been closed off by the rangers because they were burning the undergrowth to try to lessen the risk of bush fires. However, we noticed the the new "Tree Discovery Track" was open. It is much longer than the original one but my walking buddies and I enjoyed it. We meet every morning at 6:30 in the forest except for Saturday and Sunday. We always let Helen in front because she is the youngest, fastest and tallest so she can knock down the spider webs crossing the track.
While walking through the village I heard a rustle in the garden and then this huge lizard ran up a tree. It is called a Lace Monitor or Tree Goanna. Then I walked into the forest to meet the others.
Here is the new track.
It winds up hills.
On the home run.
Spider webs? Hills? Goannas before you even leave home? 6.30 in the morning? Nah. Wake me up when you get back.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun walk you go on. Must have been startling and yet fascinating to see the Lace Monitor. He is a real beauty of a lizard.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThe monitor lizard looks huge, I hope they don't bite. Lovely ladies and a forest for your walk.
Take care, have a happy day!
wish i were there, i love taking photos but do not like being in them. these are fun and woo hoo, wish I could see that giant lizard... not the spider webs though, spiders are not my thing, I would like to be second in line with you ladies. at 6:30 I am out walking Beau. today the sky was so spectacular i could not walk for looking. robins every where, a beautiful day but no big lizards
ReplyDeleteHello! New here..I Like your blog so I hope you don't mind if I drop by?
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice path!
hugs
Donna
Great walking environment. Is it warm there all the time?
ReplyDeleteForests are fascinating places!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see you're walking with friends in the forest. That was a BIG lizard! The path you walk on is so nice and wide with wonderful forest views. Happy that you're feeling well!
ReplyDeleteLooks a good walking track and it's easily seen. That is a big goanna for sure.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great track and wow that lizard is indeed huge. The ones we have here are about10 cm A great place you live with all that nature around you
ReplyDeleteAlways good to have a new place to walk. Here we send the person with the best boots in front, to knock all the moisture off the grass - "First through, gets all the dew!"
ReplyDeleteLooks like you and your friends enjoy early morning walks, Diane, but your start time is a bit too early for me as well. The lizard was large and beautifully marked as well.
ReplyDeleteYou do start your walks early in the morning.
ReplyDeleteThat does look a nice place to walk though.
All the best Jan
How nice to have a new track to try. Even though repeated visits to the same track are interesting because of the subtle changes in the forest over the seasons. Our trees have started to strip their bark like yours did weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteSuch beauty and exotic growth and such a healthy way to live for you ladies!
ReplyDeleteYikes on that huge lizard. I think he is beautiful in his own ugly, scary way.
ReplyDeleteHow nice to have a new walking trail, especially to be with close friends.
You made me laugh with having your youngest and tallest friend be the trail blazer..spider webs be gone!
Sue
Well done on the shot of the monitor, that is a fabulous photo. Cherd t'other Diane
ReplyDeleteHello....WOW...what a big lizard! I loved being in Cozumel seeing those critters running around. It was so cool since we don't see things like that in Nashville TN. Yes, I think letting someone else in front to knock down the webs is a great idea! I freak when I run into one, freak even more their is a spider in it....lol
