CHRISTMAS DINNER

It's that time of the year when we have Christmas lunches and  Christmas Dinners with all the groups we belong to. Last Saturday night was the residents Christmas Party. No village staff are involved. The residents social secretary and her committee organised the party for 130 guests. We had a caterer cook the food and a guitarist/singer provide the music. The committee organised us to sing Carols. We had a fun night but I found it a bit noisy and hard to hear. The PA system wasn't working the best and me having hearing aides didn't help. Anyway the food was good and the company great. I was impressed with our community spirit. People helped those who are less mobile to attend by giving them a lift to the Community Centre. Others delivered dinner to those who couldn't get there due to illness.

The social committee decorated the hall and tables. We are watching 12 volunteers who sang the 12 days of Christmas.

The 12 Days of Christmas

Dinner time. Salads, vegetables , pork, turkey and ham.

Each group of three tables had a Carol to sing.

We finished off with a dance. The committee and volunteers cleaned up.

  1. Making huge dinners is for young people...and certainly not for us older citizens. So it was a great idea to hire a professional caterer to cook the food and a guitarist/singer provide the entertainment. Of course the food was good and the company great. Community spirit goes up with having pleasure, not with doing sweaty hard work. By the way, the buffet looks great :)

  2. that many people can create a lot of noise just by talking. bob and I don't do well with noisy places either. that was great that the ones who needed asisstance had others to help them

  4. You do have fun. (But yes, the fun is slightly diluted when you wear hearing aids, as I well know).

  13. Seeing folks dressed in warm weather attire at Christmas is quite the difference from where we live, Diane. It reminded me of the year we celebrated in CA and I saw decorated palm trees in place of evergreens. I can imagine the noise at your fun gathering could get a bit much at times. Glad you and Bill had a fun time and Happy 🎄holiday to you both.
