ALL THAT JAZZ

Last week we bumped into friends who we hadn't seen for 10 years. They invited us to go to the Brisbane Jazz Club with them yesterday afternoon. We arrived early to get a close by parking spot. So we had a short walk along the riverside and found a park bench in the shade. It was quite hot yesterday.

We sat in the shade and watched the river traffic and caught up on the last ten years of our lives. One of our City Cat commuter ferries is going under our iconic Storey Bridge.

Soon it was time to walk back to the club, which is situated on the bank of the river at Kangaroo Point. Burke Park is on this side of the river and the CBD on the other.

We pass a huge beautifully shaped tree, so big I couldn't fit it all in the photo.

There is a strange sculpture outside the Jazz Club. It is called, "Flow" by Christopher Trotter. It represents water flowing through pipes, propellers wind in the water, and rivers wind through the land. ??

The Brisbane Jazz Club is 50 years old and it is only a small building which often gets flooded. Bill is ready to go in. He is excited because we are going to see a Big Band. Bill used to play the trumpet in a Big Band in Switzerland many years ago.

The Modernaires. Bill is second from left in the trumpet section.

Bill is standing second from the left.

Later in the day the blinds were lifted and we could see the river rolling by. Earlier the sun was shining in the windows.

  1. What a great outing. It can be worth making an effort to do such things and great that Bill enjoyed it. Living on the Brisbane River must be great, until it floods.

  3. When you ended with the words later in the day they open the windows earlier the Sun was shining in the windows that means you stayed a long time and that means Bob would have loved it but I would not have gone inside I would have been outside with my camera taking pictures of that strange sculpture. Bob is really into the big band sound and it makes me want to cry and not in a good way

  4. Sounds like a lovely time with your friends in Brisbane, and a close parking spot, wonderful! I love listening to a live band and how wonderful to see Bill in the photo. I didn’t realize he was such a musician. Great setting for The Pepperazzi Big Band, especially with the blinds rolled up to see the river beyond. Great photos Diane!

  7. How wonderful to be together after so many years. I love those types of reunions.
There is nothing like Big Band music. I adore it.
    Wonderful memories for you.

  8. What a nice day out with old friends! Was Bill inspired to take up the trumpet again? Our youngest grandson tried playing the trumpet in middle school band but found her had no wind power to play well and gave it up.
I'm glad our hot weather is now over as it seems I have no tolerance for the heat any longer. I s=do get cold at times in winter but find it easier to warm up than cool down.

  9. It sounds like you had a good day. The only instrument I can 'blow' is a hunting horn!!
For me it brought back wonderful memories of Brisbane. We always said if had ever moved to Australia it would have been to Brisbane, we loved it there.
Have a good day, t'other Diane
