NEW YEAR'S DAY IN HOSPITAL AGAIN

This is the third New Year that I have had medical issues. They say stuff happens in threes. Well I hope that's the last of it. 2020 broken ankle, 2021 bowel blockage, 2022 bowel pain but luckily no blockage this time.

Our daughter from Sydney was staying with us so she was very helpful and her husband, David is a great cook and fed us well.

Salmon with Broccoli Pasta, roasted Zucchini, Asparagus and Caramelized Onions.

Carol and David have taken a year off work and are holidaying around the eastern states. They planned this before Covid hit hard in Oz. They spent time in the Snowy Mountains in NSW then through Victoria calling in to see her sister in Melbourne and then on the ferry to Tasmania. They loved hiking and mountain bike cycling there. Then the plan was to visit country Victoria before visiting the Flinders Ranges in South Australia but alas Covid hit Melbourne and Sydney and all the other states closed their borders to people from Victoria and NSW so our kids were stuck in Victoria country. They were disappointed not to be able to discover SA and not be able to come to Queensland to see us. However, they continued to enjoy Victorian country. They stayed in Airbnb on farms or by the sea. Carol decided she would learn to bake while she had time. She hadn't done much cooking because David does it.

She made us banana bread.

Bill taught her to make Apricot Pie.

Both of them enjoy painting and they did loads of paintings of the places they visited. David prefers water colour and Carol does both water and oil. She showed us some of the oil paintings she did while on holiday. I didn't take shots of their water colours unfortunately.
Finally the states relaxed the border rules and Carol and David were able to get through NSW to us in Queensland but they never got to SA. Just as the rules were relaxed we got hit with the Omicron variant which has taken off now and all states have got cases except WA only have a few as they have kept their border closed.

At last we have had our Booster jab.

  1. Sorry about your Christmas discomfort. How good is it to have a SiL to cook for you. It sounds like in spite of state restrictions, they had a rather good long time holiday, or perhaps journey.

  4. So sorry for your medical emergency, but wonderful that you have family to support you! Those paintings are really beautiful and I envy them their life of freedom even with COVID. Having a good cook can also improve the mood of folks.

  5. wow on all the paintings and it doesn't seem fair that the universe allows two people in the same family to paint beautifully. something I have always wanted to do. I wish I could bake/cook but I hate it so much i can't seem to follow a recipe.. the dinner looks so good. sorry to hear about the bowel pain. i do know about that since I am dealing with IBS now

  6. I’m sorry you continued your tradition of getting ill in January and I hope this is the last time! Too bad your daughter’s year off did not go as planned but I love the paintings. She and her husband are very talented people. We are also back to having our groceries delivered and not going out unless absolutely necessary, because of Omicron. Will it never end??!

  7. So sorry to hear about the NY tradition. It's not a welcome one for you. I am glad to hear you had some company in your daughter and son-in-law. They are certainly talented bakers, cooks and painters.

  8. So sorry for you that you had again troubles with your bowls ! Yes this Covid spoils our lives ! I had to spend NY alone with my neighbor because you had to be at home at 11 ! as if the virus reads the clock !! These two years were really lousy ! Here they also fight with the new virus, some people get really hysterical. They make tests even if they have nothing and that costs ! I have my 3 Pfizer shots, put my mask on when I have to, but ignore the statistics they make me sleep ! It's like counting sheep ! Wish that you recover quickly !

  11. You sure have had a holiday tradition, Diane, and hopefully it will be broken this year. Glad to read that you and Bill had your booster jabs. The paintings are beautiful and worthy of having an art show.

  12. I am sorry to read you were unwell over New Year.

Such a shame that with the Covid restrictions your daughter and husband couldn't visit all the places they had originally planned. Thankfully they were able to help you though ...
I think their paintings all look excellent.

    All the best Jan

I'm glad Carol and your son-in-law were finally able to have a prolonged visit with you and be of such help when you needed it, with cooking and delicious baking, etc. Their travel paintings are beautiful! They are both very talented and I know you enjoyed having their company.

  17. One thing about being so far behind is that I know by now that you recovered. I'm so sorry you had to go through this though. Hoping this was definitely the last time you are hit with this at the holiday -- or any -- time. I enjoyed reading about your kids" Sabbatical Year -- outdoor activities sound wonderful in each place where they stayed -- and their creativity indoors (painting and food) shows brilliance!
