A NEW BOARDWALK

I can't believe it is almost a month since I posted. I must admit my time has been taken up typing contents pages for my photo albums, 36 of them, from 1949 to 2009 after that I went digital. I also have some of my parents albums with photos from the 1920's and I just realised these photos are one hundred years old now. I wonder what will happen to digital photos stored on external drives in one hundred years time. New devices probably won't open the old drives. Think it is necessary to print some photos now for the future. They could be in photo books I suppose but depending on the ink used by publishers will depend on how long the images will last.
Just a few of the albums
We went for a walk in the forest to see the new boardwalk that has been built to replace the old one.
This is one of the shorter walks in the forest and it has been upgraded for disabled people.

Bill is going to attempt to fly his drone along the boardwalk.

It is pretty in the forest as the sun is going down.

The wallaby was hiding behind the tree

The home stretch. Bill is leaving the main track and going down a little path to our village.

I took some arty farty shots on the way.

  1. Much to do sorting out photos does take a long time.
Wow, 100 year old photos, hate to think what ours taken these days will be like 100 years from now.
Your photos are pleasing and the new walk way is looking spick and span.
Hope Bill got some good video footage.
    Take care.

  2. Hello,
Years ago, I paid to have old negatives turned into photo CD's. I am hoping we will always be able to play the CD's on the computer.
You have a nice path and boardwalk there for your walks. Love the ferns and the cute wallaby. Take care, enjoy your day! Have a great week!

  3. Bill has a drone! Sounds like fun. Cloud storage is good long term storage for photos, but once you die, who will pay?

  4. I've done a lot of scanning and sorting old photos but I wonder if anyone will really care????

  5. Printing a selection is a good idea. I much prefer looking through an album than looking at a computer.

  6. That's a great looking walk. We have been admiring drone footage lately, thinking about buying one sometime.

  8. I got rid of all albums ! Ric had put most of them on a USB key. Dario took a few about his grandparents which I wasn't interested in at all and all his baby pictures and so on are on USB keys too. anyway I think all our beloved stuff will end up on the flea market, lol ! Nobody wanted mink coats (from my mother, I don't wear them) or oriental carpets, the house cleaner took it all away even brand porcelan services ! I tried to sell it, but it was also a bad moment due to the lockdown.
I don't get comments in my emails anymore since Blogger has "improved" again. Do you know what I have to do ? I am not the only one and I can't find an answer.>

  9. Looks like a nice boardwalk to better accommodate those with special needs who also enjoy being outdoors. Do share more info on Bill's drone and photos too as I have always wondered about the difficulty of using one. I liked the arty-farty images. Were you taking them while walking or moving the camera deliberately up and down?

  10. It's hard to decide how best to store our pictures, isn't it? I'm getting some books made of some of my more recent ones, hoping they'll last a few years. Scanning some of the really old family ones to put on a private family blog but it all takes so much time.

  11. Sorting out photos is time consuming but for me it is worthwhile and something I like to do

  12. Lovely photos of the new boardwalk. Keeping and storing old photos and albums is an ongoing process. I have done some photo albums but it also takes a lot of time and old photo albums are even more time consuming and sometimes I wonder if anyone will ever want to see them in the years to come. At the moment my adult children don't seem to be interested in our photos but may be later on, I hope so.

  13. I also wonder how long our images will be accessible into the future. I don’t have many photo albums, but I have more slides than I can count. The new boardwalk looks fantastic. I hope Bill was able to fly his drone successfully.

  14. Nice place to walk, the finish makes it easier and safer for everyone.

  15. The new boardwalk is lovely and fits in well with the surrounds. What a boon it must be for the folk with sticks, walkers etc too.
You have a wealth of recorded history in your shelves for sure.

  16. HaHa...I love your Arty Farty photos..
What a wonderful boardwalk and such a lovely place to walk and see the scenery.
Since I began blogging 10 years ago, I have had a blog book printed. It's my way of journaling and hopefully my family will enjoy going back after we are gone.
All the other photos are in scrapbooks or loose in a box...that's been my Hubby and my project ...to plow through them and get them in categories...it's a daunting task.

  17. P.S. I also am trying to date and put an explanation on the backs for future reference. So many of our folks things don't have names or dates and I haven't a clue if they are relatives or friends.

  18. It's good to see you back. I often wonder about photos, too. The newer generations don't seem interested in family history from what I can tell. So sad.

  19. Love the photos and the walk looks great. Labelling photo albums, I would like to do mine but I see very little point as after I am gone they will probably all be thrown into the rubbish sigh 😣 Stay safe, t'other Diane

  20. You have such great outdoor areas near your village. I love all the trees. I cannot imagine my family keeping the old photos. However, I have them all labeled and in a storage box in case anyone is interested.

  21. Digital photography is a challenge. I have lost quite a few images because the computer broke so I discarded it without pulling the images off. Photo albums are however very bulky so I have been scanning photos during downsizing - just holiday snaps mostly so it really doesn't matter if they get lost.

  23. I can never decide whether to print all my digital stuff or digitize all my printed stuff. ... that’s a lovely walk, both as is and arty farty.

  24. Hi, I too worry some about what will happen to my photos in years to come.... I have NO photo books since about 2010 or so... I had done a good job with old photos BEFORE digital hit us!!!!! My Blog Posts, Facebook Posts, and my Journal are full of stories and pictures from my life --so wonder what will happen to all of this?????

What a fabulous path to walk.. It's great that some of the trail can be done by handicapped people. How special is THAT!!!

How does Bill manipulate the drone around all of those trees????

    Have an awesome week.
    Hugs,
    Betsy
