SELLING AND MOVING IN 1974

Continuing 'My Story'

In June 1974 we sold our house and acre block of land in Springwood Road and bought a new home at 27 Wenlock Crescent, Springwood. We didn't move very far and we only planned to stay there a short time and sell at a profit and then buy our dream home. Unfortunately, for us the bottom fell out of the housing market and we ended up staying for 15 years. It was a nice comfortable little house.
We moved into a ready built new house in Wenlock Crescent. We needed to establish a garden, again.

In July we visited the Lion Park in Beenleigh.

Carol was a bit wary of feeding the deer but eventually plucked up the courage, but when it had finished eating she walked away and the deer chased her for more. She didn't like being chased by the deer. I mustn't have taken any photos of the lions.

Our new house had a back yard where Carol could play without me worrying that she could wander off like on the acre from where we had moved.

A friend helped us build a concrete block fence. Carol-Ann had turned two and I was eight months pregnant with our second baby,we didn't know the sex before they were born in those days.

  3. Looks like you had a lot of work ahead of you to make gardens, front and back. Carol Ann looks like she enjoyed the move!

  5. The pictures of Carol are Priceless and precious. She was adorable and I love the little stroller she's pushing. It looks like a really nice house to me and is much bigger than our first house was back in the 70s

  8. I'd forgotten about that Lion Park, too. I wish I still had the photos we took there. Carol was a little charmer, wasn't she? Bet she could charm the birds from the trees with that smile. Maybe it worked too well with the deer. Your little house looks delightful.

  10. A lovely memory and very enjoyable photos, thanks Diane. We lived in navy housing for many years and on many moves, but I remember the first home we ever bought. It was small and with a nice fenced in garden. If I could have transplanted that house to here I would have because I loved it and hated leaving when Gregg retired from the navy and we moved the 3,000 miles across country. We still think very fondly of our first house.

  11. Such good memories! Carol Ann loved her new home obviously. It was kind of fun back then not knowing whether you'd have a girl or boy. After over half a century, I can still remember the unused names we'd picked out... had both a boy and a girl one each time.

  12. What nice memories and photos, Diane. Can you believe that was 43 years ago? I got married that same year. We bought our first house two years later and lived in it 36 years before we moved west.

  14. Hi Diane
My wife and I are the 4th/current owners of 27 wenlock and came across your post a few days ago while looking for older pics of our house. It is looking a bit different these days.
We have been slowly renovating and repairing a lot of things, as is was not looked after too well prior to us buying. It was great to be able to see a picture of the house brand new and be able to see how far it has come and will be great to be able to look back once we are finished.
