BIRDS AND TREES

When we stopped for coffee at New Farm Park this scruffy bird came and sat next to us. I have no idea what kind of bird it is. Stop Press, Christian says it is a common crow with a problem with its neck.

On our walk we saw these trees. They were unusual in that they had lost their leaves and just had seed pods dangling. We don't have many deciduous trees in the sub tropics.

They looked pretty against the blue sky.

I don't know what kind of tree it is. This post proves that I'm not big on biological names. Stop Press Our friend Roland says that it is a "Robinia pseudoacacia"

  2. Bird looks like a juvenile crow or even a raven with that beak. He clearly was not afraid of people yet.

  7. It certainly is a scraggly bird. I would agree with crow or raven. Not sure if ravens are that far north. I've seen the same tree but I can't remember where. I think it was locally.

  12. YES --to what George said.... We certainly don't need to know the names of beautiful things that we take pictures of..... The bird reminds me of our crows around here... That bird definitely was not afraid of you... Guess he was begging for something to eat!!!!!!!

    Beautiful trees... Love the colors....

    Betsy

  16. Hi Diane, lovely shots! The bird is a torresian crow (ie. the common crow of Brisbane) but it either has a pigment condition or disease issue with the feathers on its neck. I love that nature always has something interesting to offer, even in the inner-city!

  20. Poor little bird. I wonder if it hit a window and hurt itself? I'm surprised those trees have not begun to grow leaves in your spring weather?

  21. Your inserted ‘stop the press’ announcements made me smile.... even though most of my blog lately has been about nature, I almost never know the names of flowers, seldom trees, and often can’t identify birds even with all the books I own. But I still love looking at it all and still blog about it. Often get help from other bloggers. )
