This weeks Sepia Saturday theme is " Boadecea or Mother England’ or possibly Britannia. You can choose; or go with armour, helmets, shields, fancy dress, pantomime, theatricals, warlike women or big sticks".
I rummaged through my box of old photos and couldn't find anything resembling a warlike woman except for these shots of me playing competitive sports with a weapon.
When I went to Papua New Guinea as a teacher in 1963, I joined sporting clubs to make friends. The first club was the Pt Moresby Archery club. I really enjoyed this sport. The equipment that I see now days is so high tech compared to what we used then.Later I gave up archery because I joined a hockey team. Hockey was my favourite sport and I had played since I was 13. However, it was extremely hot playing in the hot, humid, tropical weather. The Papuan girls could really slog the ball hard.
Oh Diane you have lead such a wonderfully adventurous life. That is a perfect shot. Oh I bet you have a million fascinating stories. B
ReplyDeleteare you ever tempted to pick up the bow and try it all again Diane?
ReplyDeleteDiane, I love these old shots of you. You were quite the athlete. Happy weekend to you!
ReplyDeleteRemind me to not get on the wrong side of you with your formidable expertise with an arrow. Ever thing you would like to try archery again? Bet you never thought at the time that PNG would be full of Iranians in the future.
ReplyDeleteThing is think of course. Why do the fingers go wronf?
ReplyDeletelooks war like to me in the hockey game... as in attacking that ball...
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! They must have brought back some memories!
ReplyDeleteoh, i have no doubt you were a tough woman (still are!)
ReplyDeleteOne of my high school memories is avoiding participation in field hockey. The game above looks much more exciting than ours were.
ReplyDeleteExcellent take on this week's theme.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing these photos of your early years - a mixture of travel travel and time travel. This photo certainly fits the theme!
ReplyDeleteDamn you have lived such an amazing life............so interesting and exciting, also I liked the photos
ReplyDeleteOh what great adventures you must have had there! Very cute ( and warlike) shot of you
ReplyDeleteThat's why I always wear a bullet proof vest at home.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
TOH.
I think I'm going to do my best to stay on your good side. You look like you know what your doing with both the bow and the stick.
ReplyDeleteI think you aced this! Great photos too!
ReplyDeleteI agree, great shots of you.
ReplyDeleteYou look tanned in the photos.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't & still not a great lover of sport, however I see skill in it.
Excellent choice Diane. I've always wanted to try archery; I think coming from Nottingham, I fancied myself as Maid Marian!
ReplyDeleteBoth great shots for the theme Diane, both warlike in their own ways haha! I played hockey also..could get a wee bit fiery :)
ReplyDeleteWish I had had teachers that looked as good as that!
ReplyDeleteYou look like Ali McGraw. I had a neighbor who lived in Papua New Guinea about that era. His name is Gail Presnall.
ReplyDeleteJust brilliant Diane! You really embraced life back then as you do now :D)
ReplyDeleteYour hubby's comment made me smile!
ReplyDeleteAre you familiar with the kids movie 'Brave?'
That first shot could have been an ad for Hunger Games. :)
I'll have to check out this meme soon.
Great spin on the theme!!
ReplyDeleteWhile you are right that archery has become quite technical, this is a great pose. And you seemed to be defending your own on that hockey field.
Well done!!
:)~
HUGZ
Ah it might have been Diana who was Goddess of the hunt, but it is Diane who is Goddess of the meme.
ReplyDeleteVery active and sporty.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
Filip
Great to see an action shot at hockey, a game I played for 28 years. I still have some scars to prove it from my venture into mixed hockey games.
ReplyDeleteStrong healthy woman for sure. Warlike, not so much I don't think. But I love the pictures!!
ReplyDeleteI think you excelled at every sport you tried!
