We have a residents dinner every two months. Sometimes we have a theme to dress for. This dinner was a Spring theme as we are nearly there and the weather is already here. This dinner was a bit special because our usual chef was unavailable so the Catering Students from Rochedale High School, who usually serve us and help in the kitchen, actually cooked for us as well this month. They are supervised by their teachers.
We thank the students individually before they go home after cleaning up. They are fantastic kids.As I have mentioned before we pick a number out of a container to find out which table we are at. We were lucky to sit with a friendly lot of residents that we knew well. Its a good system as everyone gets to know new residents. We have had a few in the last month. Unfortunately they take the place of those who had to move on to full-time care facilities. Our village is quite small compared to other retirement villages. We have 123 homes where as others have up to 400 or more. We are so glad we moved here 9 years ago.
Nine years! Wow, has that gone quickly. It looks like a fun time with some good food.
ReplyDeleteHaving a residents' dinner every two months is a brilliant idea, great for your social life, for very special food and for costume celebrations.
ReplyDeleteDo any of the residents have special food needs - eg low calories? vegetarian? sugar-free?
Yes we have a few residents with special requirements. When we RSVP for the dinner we are asked to add any special requirements.
DeleteLooks like a nice dinner event! Take care, happy Thursday! Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteGoodness Diane, it's hard to believe you have been there for 9 years!
ReplyDeleteIt was obviously a good move for you. A nice change to have the students cooking for you. Hope all is well, Cheers t'other Diane
ReplyDeleteA wonderful and interesting event, an excellent lunch. I must admit that you are much better off in such an institution than we are alone at home. Best regards! Jasna, the old gardener
ReplyDeleteA resident event is a wonderful thing and nice that you can meet different people at each although you likely know most of the residents. Since our residence is a large apartment building it is always difficult to get residents involved in any activity.
