MEMORIES FROM 1986

Oh my goodness no posts in October at all. Shame on me. Well I have been a bit under the weather and Bill had a stint in hospital but we are slowly getting back to normal. I still am scanning my photo albums and turning them into photo books along with written memories of those times.

In 1986 it was all about the girls and their schooling and extra curricular activities. Carol was in Year Nine in High School and Sonya was in Year Seven in Primary School. Now days Year Seven is in High School.

Carol-Ann in John Paul College uniform. 14 years old.

Carol played hockey, soft ball and she was in the school marching band and concert band playing trumpet.

Sonya also played softball, hockey and the trumpet.

Sonya was also in the Jump Rope team.

Bill played trumpet in the Redland Bay Concert Band.

Sonya received a book prize at the Year Seven Graduation night. It was a book of Banjo Patterson's poems. She named her second son Banjo.

We all went to Sydney to visit my Mum and Aunt.

While there we took the girls to Manly, a sea side suburb of Sydney.

They went kayaking on the harbour side of Manly.

They had fun on the water slides too.

I was teaching in a semi rural school called Mount Cotton State School. Sonya came to the same school.
The quality of the photos isn't the best, still they are almost 40 years old.

  1. Manly looks busier than I've seen it in recent years, no matter what the weather. Rather than cooling off on a hot day by going to the beach, I think people stay home with their aircon nowadays...like me.

  2. 1986 was a generation after I finished high school, but the photos still look very familiar - school uniform for class time, then hockey uniform in winter and softball in summer.

I have never visited Manly Beach because my beloved spouse lived in Bondi. Your photo looks very inviting.

  3. Your photo album task is one that I, too, started some years ago. Unfortunately life has got in the way.

  4. Wonderful post Diane, good to see how times were back then with the scenery and your two girls.
Sorry to read you have been under the weather and Bill's been in hospital - speedy recovery and we are thinking of you both.
    Take care.

  5. What wonderful memories ! Unfortunately I only have a few pictures of little Dario and mostly Christmas photos. Rick and I were not interested in photography and never thought about taking pictures for the future ! Fortunately my father's hobby was photography and all photos I have are from him. I started loving photography when the old system with film rolls stopped and we had the digital camera. Rick only reluctantly touched a camera, it could bite !

  6. Manly is an odd name for a town, is there one named Girly? ha ha. kidding. so sorry you are both having health issues, but then we have known each other for 15 years and we were YOUNGSTERS then and now we are not.. there is no stopping the aging process. Your girls will love these books and pass them on to their kids for the future

These photos which will go into book form are wonderful. I need to do that again too.
Your family is very athletic and musical. Love the memories.

  10. I hope you are both feeling so much better. This heat and humidity is very draining. So many wonderful memories surface as one looks back at old photos. I converted all my mine into digital. Both my sons live overseas, so now have a USB stick of the many taken of them.
