LOVE A FAMILY VISIT

We had a visit from our eldest daughter, Carol and her husband, David. They flew from Melbourne last week to visit us, celebrate a birthday and to do a job.

Carol has had two years off work and she is now getting back into the workforce. She has a consulting job at the Sunshine Coast Airport, so she had to come to Queensland for a few days. David had his birthday at the same time so he came to celebrate with his family, who also live in Brisbane. So we were lucky to have an unexpected visit from them.

Carol baked us a custard tart:

David cooked us dinner:

Carol did some work preparation:

But she had time to bake us a Swiss breakfast loaf called a Züpfe:

She also cooked David a beautiful Birthday cake and took it to his parents home:

Then it was time to say goodbye as they set off to the airport to fly home to cold Melbourne. They enjoyed the warm sunshine while they were here.

Bill hasn't been feeling too well lately and it was early in the morning.

  4. The best kind of visitors: they cooked, and baked, and brought joy. Happy belated Birthday to David!

  5. Your daughter has had two years off work and thankfully she is now getting back into the workforce. It happened to so many people during the Covid lockdowns which Melbourne businesses took very seriously. I hope her career resumes happily and the family income is stable again.

Zopf looks exactly the same as the Jewish bread/challah that we eat every Friday night and Saturday lunch. I had to look up the difference and that is the use of butter in Zopf.

  6. Always nice to see the family. I worked with a young Swiss woman who once made some bread like that - it was amazing.

  10. What a lovely surprise ! the Zöpfli I know too, it's appreciated in Germany too ! I am back from my cruise and unfortunatelyit was a big flop. I am more tired now, than before the cruise ! Definitively or the program was wrong or I misunderstood. I'll write later when I have recovered !

  11. Not the best news regarding the former Swiss gentleman. Get well ASAP buddy.
When it warms up and I am off the routine of visiting doctors and specialists I hope
to visit Brissie in maybe September - lunch at the Sofitel won't be the same if you're
    not present.
    Cheers
    Colin

  13. Gosh, you've reminded me of the long gone days when a custard tart was one of my specialties. Hope Bill is recovering. A visit from young ones who pitch in and spoil you must have been much enjoyed and appreciated.
