The weather is warming up. We had 33°C/91°F today. The trees are losing their bark and my walking buddies have taken off their jackets. On my walk yesterday I saw a wallaby eating my neighbour's Gardenias, she let me get close and I could see she had a joey in her pouch with a foot sticking out.
Okay lady that's close enough.
When I got into the forest I saw a eucalyptus tree had lost its winter coat and it is showing off it's green dress.
We spotted a native orchid growing in the forest.
That evening we had our annual street party, everyone brings a plate, a drink and a chair. we all get on well in our street and enjoy each other's company. As the sun went down we packed up and went home happy and full so we didn't need any dinner.
Having an annual street party is a great idea, or even twice a year. It cuts down the amount of cooking you would have to do if you were cooking alone; eating in the fresh air is a great idea; and the company is readily available :) I wonder if I could suggest it to my own neighbours.
ReplyDeleteLooks like everybody's enjoying the warm weather and I know you all enjoy the food and the fellowship and that wonderful sunset
ReplyDeleteLove the photo of the wallaby. What fun to have an annual street party with all your friends.
ReplyDeleteGood to enjoy the company of ones neighbours, the sunset, very pretty.
ReplyDeleteEnvious of your temperature there.
The wallaby is so cute and at least if it attacks you, you have a good chance of fighting it off. In spite of growing up in the bush, I know so little about our gum trees, but I know a bit more now. What a lovely sunset.
ReplyDeleteIt is always funny to read about your summer when here the temps are low...:(
ReplyDeleteThat would count as a heatwave here! Mornings and evenings must be the best time to be out and to socialise.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun street party!
ReplyDeleteLove the photos especially that cute wallaby.
Hugs and blessings, Diane B!
Lovely photos and I envy you your temperatures. It is only 6C here as I type this!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to RSA in late January to miss the winter here! Cheers t'other Diane
Street party sounds fun. As your weather is getting warmer, ours is getting colder.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful sunset and capture of it, and I love the picture of the wallaby with the baby's foot sticking out.
That is interesting the trees shedding their bark now. Ours don't do that until February, but it takes until then for hot weather like yours to arrive. I found some orchards like that in our forest too.
ReplyDeleteI love that street party idea. How fun. I keep forgetting you have summer while we have winter coming.
ReplyDeleteThis morning we had a hard frost..everything looked like snow, which we don't have here in the Sacramento Valley of California.
Love the photos of the Wallabe and her Joey's foot sticking out.

How fun to see the wallaby with the baby. Looks like it’s quite filling up Mama’s pouch! I didn’t realize eucalyptus trees shed their bark. Wow, what a gorgeous sunset that is.
ReplyDeleteLovely to see the wallaby although the owner of the gardenias may not be quite so happy. It's always nice to see how your community celebrate togetherness.
ReplyDeleteThe wallaby is cute. I wish it was still summer here. Beautiful sunset! Take care, enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteYour street party looked great! Enjoyed all your photos but the wallaby was special to me today. Thank you for putting a smile on my face Diane. Happy December!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your summer weather and your morning walks! What a lovely place to have your walks, through all those trees. It's finally gotten cooler here in San Diego, California; we hope it will stick around for a while. I'd love to see a wallaby with a joey in her pouch walking around my neighborhood, but instead we have skunks, coyotes and rabbits. Have a lovely Christmas, Diane!
ReplyDeleteDidn't the sun go down beautifully ...
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Beautiful summer! And a great party. I can never get over being amazed that you see wallabyes on the street.
ReplyDeleteIts always wonderful to see the change of seasons in your location, Diane. How nice to see the wallaby and its joey or at least a partial view. The block party looks like a fun event too.
