The boxes are ready.
The people are ready. This event was held at Happy Hour, where we bring our own nibblies. We can bring our own drinks or buy them at the bar.
Eva got a pair of warm bed socks, they became one of the most sought after gifts. They were stolen many times.
Gay stole them from Eva, Tony stole them from Gay.
Terry got two little pigs.
He swapped them for socks from Herbie.

Julie couldn't believe she got a little green frog again, the same as last year. She said, "Not another stupid green frog." She had us in hysterics. Sandra and Gwen are the organisers.
Green frogs were a popular gift. Caren thought it was funny but she had it stolen by cheeky Bob, who gave her a calender of half naked volunteer Firemen. We thought that was hilarious since she is over 80.

Swapping gifts without consent? That could have ended up like a repeat of the Oscars ceremony!
ReplyDeleteYour comment about the firemen calendar reminds me of my grandmother who went into a care home when she was 95. She used to get very annoyed when they tested the fire alarms - "They keep doing that and raising my hopes that I'll get carried downstairs by a nice young fireman!"

That sounds like a load of fun. We do something similar at Christmas time with that special "white elephant" gift. It can create a lot of laughs.

We have played that game around Christmas time and have always called it Yankee Swap. But it definitely would work at any time of year with a large group.

ReplyDeleteThe Box party sounds much like what's called a Yankee Swap which we have participated in at our dominoes group. It was a lot of fun and ours was done at holiday time. It is a great way to donate something you no longer need or want and hopefully someone else does!

ReplyDeleteWe play a similar game at Christmas time. We each pick a number from a hat that tells us when we can choose. A person can steal someone's prior gift choice or choose their own new one. The bottles of wine are a favorite steal...lol...followed by candy. The best present I picked one year was crystal candlesticks --I use them a lot! The worst was a ugly mug.
