DON'T BRAG (Message to myself)

After bragging to my readers that we had Covid under control, it has snuck back into our community. Only in Brisbane not anywhere else in the country. We recorded four new cases over the last few days so now we have been locked down again for at least three days. It is quite harsh. Schools closed. Only essential workers can go to work, wear masks, stay apart, stay home except for food shopping, exercise, and medical reasons. If people have been visiting from other states they have to quarantine for 14 days when they return home. Travel is banned. In the meantime testing and contact tracing has gone into overdrive. The health gurus know that it is the UK strain and it was brought into the country by a returning Aussie from overseas, who was positive and went to hospital for treatment where a doctor became infected and passed it onto a friend. Friend was asymptomatic and passed it onto brother who passed it onto three others.

Unfortunately, our vaccine rollout is slow because we can't get Europe to send enough because they need it and we have to give some of ours to third world Papua/New Guinea. We are due to get our (oldies jab) after Easter. Health workers have had theirs. Care home patients are getting it now. Then us.

So it's time to get a bit of Zen in our village Zen garden.

  1. I have no confidence in my remark, but the zen garden seems to be so much better now than when it was in its early state. What a delight. Not great about your COVID cases and hopefully your lock down will be for only three days, but young people out and about.... We were about to book a GC and Brisbane holiday. But I couldn't bring myself to do it. As I said to R, you can see why I am hesitant as if we were there now and returning home, we would be in a fourteen day lockdown. Maybe by July it will have died down but I am not booking yet.

  2. Hello Diane,
Beautiful waterlilies, love the photos. It seems we can not let our guard down with this virus. I am glad you are able to get the vaccine soon, I get my first shot on Friday. Take care, stay safe. Have a great week!

  3. My husband 75 years old, is getting his first injection April 13, me 73, haven't had an invitation yet. It goes very slowly in our country...:(

  4. Your government seems to have the right idea in clamping down on movement and interaction at the first sign of the virus. Here it got well established before anyone knew what it was and, like weeds in the garden, it's proved very hard to eradicate. In a garden like the one you show here I could happily isolate for a long time.

  5. At least your country knows what to do to keep the spread minimal. Can't claim that happened here. we are both now fully inoculated and will have full immunity by Tuesday a week. Then we head to Buffalo to see granddaughter #3 and family. Can't wait.

  6. Love you guys today. I do find it sometimes if I brag about something then very next thing that happens is whatever I bragged about is there. But I don't think that's the case for you and I do hope it will only be a few cases and not spread. It is a good thing to lock down and stop it as fast as I can because once it gets ahold we're still having tens of thousands of people come down with it everyday. Because half the people in America still think it's a hoax and that the government is trying to take over by making us do what we don't want to do which is bigger lockdown.

  7. I'm feeling Zen looking at your water lily photos. Bob and I received our second shot 2 weeks ago. Today our son is coming to visit and will stay overnight. He hasn't been able to stay in over a year. Stay well and continue to be cautious. Bob and I are still mostly isolating so Gregg's visit is a big deal for us!

  8. Sorry to hear that the new strain has reached your part of the world. They have got it right clamping down so quickly. I'm not sure we will ever get it under control here.

  10. And your country was my example ! That's terrible now you have exactly the same rules we have with one interruption since a year now !!! It's awful and there are not enough vaccins, our King went today to Pfizer it's 60 km fromm Brussels, that's why you get it quicker:)) maybe he can do something but King or not they can't do miracles !

  13. Hi Diane, You are lucky to have such beautiful spaces to go to when you need a deep, calming breath. I hope your 'people' are successful in shutting down this outbreak but it looks like Easter will be spoiled for many who planned long delayed family gatherings. Take care and stay safe!

  15. Your zen garden is such a treat. What a beautiful addition to your neighborhood and so appropriate this past year and continuing. I’m sorry Covid has returned. We just finished our second dose and are looking forward to a bit more freedom. I hope you get you’re soon.

  17. DOn't worry Diane, at least the AUssies are acting FAST and taking it extremely seriously. We in France were on our third 'sort of' lockdown but it's now a complete one starting from tomorrow because - finally - they'll be closing the schools for a month. No more than 6 people hanging out together in the streets; no alcohol in the streets; no bars, cafes or essential shops opened and no travel from home further than 1km. Masks are mandatory everywhere outside now, even walking dogs!

  19. Such a shame Diane but that's the nature of this virus, it can slip through anywhere. We've been lucky in WA but I can't help feeling it's just a matter of time. Goodness knows when we'll get the injections. Your Zen garden is such a lovely peaceful spot, much needed at the moment ✨

  20. Sorry to read, Diane, about the rise in viruses cases and all the resulting shutdowns of nearly everything, it seems. It is distressing to read about the delays in vaccinations in so many states here and in other countries. The Zen garden looks like a great place to relax and there's also great photo opps as you have shown here.
