LIGHTING UP

Every year we have a Lighting Up Night in December, where the residents turn on their Christmas lights and invite friends and family to walk around the village and enjoy the lights. Afterwards, they are invited to have drinks together in the community centre and be entertained with Christmas Carols from the Elements Singers. Let me take you for a walk around our village at night.

We even joined in and lit up our unit.

  2. A lot of people seem to join in the fun of lighting up their houses, which is wonderful. There are a few houses in my suburb that have decorated and when we go on our nightly walks I enjoy taking photos of them.

  7. For those of us up in the Northern Hemisphere there is something deeply surreal about viewing Christmas lights while wearing shorts! Have a good Christmas.

  14. Growing up our tradition was that after Christmas Eve services (which was always the childrens nativity) before we went home we drove around town and looked at the lights. I still try to get around to see lights. Makes me happy!

  15. That's a lovely community tradition to participate in. Diane it appears that all the villas are two storey - this surprises me for a retirement village.
Have a lovely Christmas season :) We will have all eight children home plus three spouses - very full house!

  16. It was fun seeing the holiday decorations in your neighborhood, Diane. Although, admittedly seeing people walking around in shorts is so different than here where we have snow and winter garb.

  18. What a massive effort everyone put into their Christmas lights and vignettes. I'm impressed, and gathering like that at the end would have been so festive. Cheers Diane! 🎄

  19. Thanks for the tour. The houses all look so pretty, and I liked what you did with your unit. It seems funny seeing people walking around in shorts though, since it's so cold now on our side of the world.

  20. This is a marvellous display of Christmas lights ... it is a shame it takes so long for it to get dark so they display to their best (ooops I just remembered you don't have daylight saving and it gets dark much earlier in Qld anyway). I notice in your comment on the Perth blog that your family got to you before the latest border shutdown ... I am really glad for you as I was wondering how you go on. I am going off the air for a while (don't know how long) so popped by to wish you a Happy New Year.
