My Dad died 37 years ago today. It's a long time ago but I still miss him. He was a kind, helpful
and funny Dad.
and funny Dad.
Dad and me on the ship migrating to Australia from England in 1949. An adventurous thing to do for him, to take his family to an unknown country where he had no friends or relatives.
Ten years later after they had established themselves in Sydney.
When we went on caravan holidays, Dad always liked to have an afternoon "Think".
He was a great Dad, who died too young at 68 from bone cancer.
I still my dad and mom too. Dad died in 2007 and Mom in 2013. You have some wonderful memories.
ReplyDeleteWonderful old shots Diane. My dad did the same thing except we went to Central Africa instead of Australia. I'm ever grateful to him for being the explorer he was 💜
ReplyDeleteThey are wonderful photos full of happy memories.
ReplyDeletedoing the math, he must have been close to my dad's age. daddy was born in 1913 but lived to age 93, he died in 2006. I like the old photos
ReplyDeleteIt is sad that he died so young. He sounds like a great dad and I love the photo you have together with him on the ship to your new home. My dad lived a bit longer but it would have been too soon if he died at 100.
ReplyDeleteHello, wonderful memories and photos of your Dad. It is sad, he died so young. Take care, enjoy your day and week ahead.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful memories of a lovely Dad. Such a loving photo of both of you - a precious moment in time xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet picture of the two of you! You have some lovely memories. He must must have been a courageous and hard-working man to move his family so far away to Australia and build a life for all of you as successfully as he did. My dad also died 37 years ago, from a rare, slow-growing cancer of the stomach lining, 61 years old.
ReplyDeleteYour dad sounds wonderful and how lovely that you have such good photos of him (and your mom). I especially love the top photo of you and your dad on the way to Australia.
ReplyDeleteLovely Diane. Doesn't time fly.
ReplyDeleteGuess when he sat and thought it was peaceful.
i think we all miss our parents no matter how long ago they passed. mine passed way too young too. lovely photos Diane. i agree, migrating to a far off land is a very brave thing to do. i don't know if i could do it. and i always think of my pommie friends who must have been blown away with the differences especially the weather :)
ReplyDelete68 that's really young ! My father was not a kind man and lived until 83 and probably would have made longer if he hasn't fallen in the kitchen. Our lockdown continues til May 5th and then the shops etc will open slowly slowly not all at once !Now that I am used to be locked in I wonder how it will be going back to "normal" live and the moving is hanging over my head !!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful tribute to your Dad.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tribute to your Dad, and I know about missing him as I miss mine also. All the photos are great but that first one with the two of you on the ship, magic!
ReplyDeleteSad to lose your dad, he was quite adventurous to move the family across the oceans and build a life for you there.
ReplyDeleteWay too young. Wonderful childhood memories though! The picture of him with you on the boat says it all...off on an adventure together, but he is there to protect you.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that in these days of self-isolation so many memories return of those we loved and lost. The same has been true for me in thinking about my parents and how many memories we have missed sharing. It's the old ones that sustain us at these times, Diane. Thanks for sharing these of your father and he did seem a wonderful man and much loved as well.
ReplyDeleteI always think of my Dad on Anzac day, it was so important to him
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tribute to your dad.
ReplyDeleteLove the old photos.
Wonderful tribute to your dad! What courage he must have had to set off with his fammily on such an adventure. How long did it take?
ReplyDeleteHave a kindness flinging day!
