Once a month we have a special dinner at the village. This month we had a German theme.
The tables were covered with Bavarian colours and bibs were on the chairs for us slobbering seniors.
Brian Pozzey is our visiting chef. He came out of retirement to do this for us.
We sat with new residents, George and Coral from Scotland. They were an interesting couple. Others were Lyn, June (our oldest resident at 92) and her son Randyll, who plays the piano for us.
Black Forest cake, Cherry Mascarpone Cream, Chocolate Gnash,White Chocolate Praline Crumble for dessert.
It was the last dinner for the year. The residents thanked the Chef, Staff and Rochedale High School students for their work throughout the year to make these evenings a success.
Chiou See Anderson, our Owner/CEO, presented the students and teachers with a gift for helping Poz in the kitchen and serving us all year.
I've said it before but I think it's worth repeating: you really do live in a pretty darn good community with a pretty darn good lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteThe food looks delicious and the rest of your evening looks like a lot of education and fun.
ReplyDeleteyou sure have a wonderful group and the food looks delish. everyone looks so happy... you picked the right place to move to for sure... I love the word WILLKOMMEN. I love words in other languages that look like words in English and the fact I can read it though I don't speak the language. great idea for the visiting speaker.
ReplyDeleteOh no, not the chicken dance, but huge fun. What a great dinner but no apple strudel? It seems like you live in a great place.
ReplyDeleteIt has been interesting following you. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHello, a great evening with yummy food and friends. The desserts look delicious. The chicken dance photos is fun! Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy new week ahead.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful event. It must have taken so much organising and work to produce such an amazing meal. The bibs made me laugh.
ReplyDeleteyummy dinner
ReplyDeleteSounds like a delightful and delicious event. I love schnitzel and warm potato salad.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful dinner. Here at Vantage House we can't tip the staff that serves us in many ways so we collect for the Employee Appreciation Fund in the Fall then give out checks to staff based on number of hours worked. Executive staff get a flat $200 but the rest can some sizable checks just in time for the holidays. We love our staff!
ReplyDeleteMein Gott!
ReplyDeleteBill's eyes look like flying saucers.
With that Black Forest Cake - it would be a case of "now you see it, now you don't"
Actually I reckon I'd beat Bill in the devouring race.
A great time had by all I reckon.
Colin
Looks so delicious, and fun too.
ReplyDeletelooks like a very enjoyable evening and dessert looks delish. i must say your village looks like the place to live. :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a child my best friend had German parents who often looked after me when my mother was ill. The food was good! Fortunately I was not required to do the Chicken Dance.
ReplyDeleteEvery time you do a post on a resident gathering at your place, Diane, it shows all the fun, good food, and camaraderie. It’s also great that people are assigned seating to mingle and meet others they may not already know.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun Diane.. the chicken dance made me smile 😊 yummy food, good company.. I think you picked a top spot there ✨
ReplyDeleteI've been very impressed with the monthly dinners you have at your village. They are obviously joyous occasions enjoyed by all. The food looks absolutely delicious.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun event to have every month, Diane. I love German food and the menu looked so good--especially that special Black Forest cake--yum!
ReplyDeleteWhere we live we joined a community senior club and we do "pot luck" meals once a month at a community center and have a guest speaker or entertainment. Then we have a group outing in the month. We rotate leadership for 3 months at a time so we all take turns decorating, planning themes and outings, but we all cook something according to our food assignment. It's fun!
Nobody goes away hungry at a German dinner! Looks fun ... and delicious . I’m sure the new couple loved sharing the meal with you...that’s such a good idea. It doesn’t seem like all that long ago when you and Bill were moving in to your new community, and now you’re the veterans! You sure made a good move.
ReplyDeleteOh wow so much fun and the food looks delicious. Sauerkraut is very common in Holland as well and I sure know black forest cake or in German Schwarzwalder kirsch torte. Yum
ReplyDeleteLooks such a fun evening with good food and friendly people.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
