Our CEO and staff of our village, organised a Christmas in July lunch. They cooked for 150 of us and it was delicious. Many of the residents helped in the kitchen, organised Santa Clause and gifts as well as some raffles for the social club. I don't really agree with celebrating Christmas in July because it is a way of hanging on to British tradition of having Christmas in winter. We are Australian and celebrate in summer, get used to it. After all we have had 231 years to get used to it. However, I enjoy socialising and having lunch together.
The CEO and staff, who cooked the dinner. Chiou See (Chelsea) was telling us that she will take us to Taiwan for a holiday next year. We are lucky to have such a vibrant progressive person owning and running our village.

Bill enjoyed the lunch but steered clear of the Brussel Sprouts, he's not a fan.
Chiou See asks Bill to take videos and me to take photos of all the events for our iPad Albums, the newsletter, the village Facebook Page and the photo pin board. So this is how I spend my time at functions in between eating, drinking wine and enjoying myself. Everyone who moves into the village is given an iPad to keep in touch with everything going on in the village as well as for personal use.
That must feel a bit uncomfortable, Christmas in July!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Bill on the brussel sprouts but my hubby loves them so I give in and cook them at this time of year - if I boil all the life out of them they are edible.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds such a great place to live. I'm glad you have a role as their roving reporter, good to have another way of sharing your photos for the pleasure of others. As for Christmas in July... well, any excuse for a celebration is good!
ReplyDeleteYour retirement community is very generous. We do have special meals here but no iPad gifts or long distance travel opportunities.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a lot of fun Diane, and I'm sure everyone appreciates your super photos. I know I do :)
ReplyDeleteHello, Christmas in July sounds like a fun time. The food looks yummy. You do take great photos. Enjoy your day, happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteSeems like a really big family there. :) And you two were the official photographer and videographer. Looks like it was a fun time. :)
ReplyDeleteYet another fun time at your retirement village, Diane, and I agree with a previous comment that any reason to celebrate is a good one 😀. If you and Bill will be going on that future trip, I know we will see some terrific photos and posts. In our household, it's Grenville who doesn't like Brussel sprouts.
ReplyDeleteChristmas in July is becoming more common over here. The Salvation Army has had bell-ringers in front of one of our stores this entire month. You are fortunate to be in such an active village.
ReplyDeleteWe often used to have a Christmas lunch in July in Africa. Meanwhile Christmas day was spent in the pool keeping cool! Great set of photos. Have a great weekend, t'other Diane
ReplyDeleteToo Funny & Entertaining - Way Cool
ReplyDeleteCheers
There should be more villages like yours, I think. Any occasion that brings together the residents must be good in my book. (If I had a glass of wine before taking photos, the results would be very amusing!)
ReplyDeleteSounds like an excellent village with a real community The food looks good and so cool that everyone has an Ipad and you as a photographer :)
ReplyDeleteLots of fun there... good food too. I appreciate your views on Christmas in July - calling biscuits 'cookies' gets my goat lol ;D) Going with the flow though and all is well.
ReplyDeleteI like where you live Diane xx
Wow Buddy and I would love it. We need a village for more social fun but we already have the iPads..
ReplyDeleteWell, I must say that Christmas in July looks and sounds a fun time :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
